You really don't know people until you dig a little deeper, fortunately one of the advantages of (un) social media is some people reveal themselves because their beliefs are so virulent they want to share.
It's got me thinking, as we don't share a naturally common language when the black guy received the ball what was my fellow fan shouting with such passion. I now know I am amongst at least one foreigner and possibly more who have seething fascism at their core.
When an ignorant cockney turns around and shouts his age old Alf Garnett abuse in front of me I deal with it, it's easy and generally not an issue. However now I know that guys I'm speaking to in my language are not revealing their views upfront, I'm slightly off guard as to how this is playing out.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss when it comes to language deficiency. I'm sure there are everyday comparisons in life that I miss locally speaking, but when it enters my territory I am very uneasy.
It's a bit early for 3am but I'm trying to express an issue of how you deal with obvious fascists who appear on the surface to interact fairly normally, as in he doesn't wear the Waffen Shirt but seems to be on the right of Adolf's shoulder.

Depends on the situation and context, as one shouldn't compromise one's health just to point out what is both obvious and likely very well known by the perpetrator. However, if you feel personal safety is not an issue, confront them with it and tell them how you feel. You'll likely find they get defensive and immediately claim they weren't being racist, don't be so sensitive, I have lots of black friends, just taking the piss...very few people will proudly stand up for being racist, and even when they are they'll attempt to frame the racism in another way or justify it somehow. I think we had a pretty good example of this here recently.rl66 wrote:You really don't know people until you dig a little deeper, fortunately one of the advantages of (un) social media is some people reveal themselves because their beliefs are so virulent they want to share.

Ultimately you're best off just not hanging around with these people. They're not trustworthy or pleasant people, as racism tends to come from a dark place in people's character. Inevitably the racism is either a crutch used to explain how and why things didn't work out in their lives or a weapon to be wielded to their personal advantage whenever convenient.
I would have thought being from Glasgow, that you would be an expert on dealing with fascism and bigotry. Isn't Glasgow built on the stuff?
