"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
Video yesterday from the Phils taken at an anti-US military base protest staged at the US Embassy there. Pro-Duterte supporters getting a bit violent while (surprise) Duterte himself is off on a state visit to China.
Let the filipinos buddy-up with the Chinese if that is what they think is best for them. If they want to accept China's "9 dashed line" and surrender their rights to use what should be international waters, then that's their prerogative. Pull US military bases out of the Phils, S. Korea and Japan if they are no longer welcomed. The Aussie's understandably don't want to stir the pot with their dominant trade partner either, although I'm a bit surprised they aren't more outspoken on the Chinese claiming of 95% of the South China Sea. The last country that seems to want a strong, permanent US military presence in the region is ironically Vietnam, of all places. Go figure.

Rumors of ejecting the US and allowing full Chinese military access to the Phil and siding with them on the SCS deal in exchange for freebees from China to include fuel, economic aid, etc.. Basically an anti-western pact with China. Interesting times.

Sure. Seems like a short-sighted plan by the Phils to me, but it's not my fight. I'd rather the US walk away from cold war type global chess games and cede influence of the entire area to China. Let the chips fall where they may and let the filipinos et al. deal with all the good and possibly not-so-good long term effects of being in the embrace of China. Of course, the US won't walk away. Too much military pride at stake and the inherent feeling of need to "contain China" with the widely announced "pivot to Asia" thing. The US will strongly support Duterte's oppositon in ways both above and below board... quietly stirring the pot against him whenever possible. He gives them lots of opportunity. Assassination is never off the table with the CIA. Willing gunmen-for-hire are plentiful and cheap as chips in the Phils and Duterte has made some serious enemies in the local drug world. Also cheap and plenty are pro-USA, stooge Filipino politicans to take his place.Felgerkarb wrote:Rumors of ejecting the US and allowing full Chinese military access to the Phil and siding with them on the SCS deal in exchange for freebees from China to include fuel, economic aid, etc.. Japan and S. Korea, on the other hand, should still be kissing Uncle Sam's hairy nutsack in return for continued US military protection. They have wolves at their door. Interesting times, indeed.

So is the new government in the Philippines going to go along with China's outrageous claims for sea territory? What a fucking disaster.

That old hairy scrotum will be around for at least a few more years... but like everything else in life this too will change.Edwardo wrote:Sure. Indeed. IF they get into the PI, they will never leave without a fight. Australia must be thrilled.Lucky Lucan wrote:So is the new government in the Philippines going to go along with China's outrageous claims for sea territory? What a fucking disaster.

China is already in the South Pacific and has been for some time, giving aid to island countries that are traditionally reliant on aid from Australia and NZ. The ever increasing need for aid ($) is met by China.

I know. They are doing an excellent job expanding influence in the region...thus the current courting of the PI.kinard wrote:China is already in the South Pacific and has been for some time, giving aid to island countries that are traditionally reliant on aid from Australia and NZ. This will certainly advance the US opening up in Vietnam. There were feelers put out by the US military retaking Cam Ranh Bay a couple of years ago. The worse the US relations with PI, the better they will be with Vietnam. No matter what happens Vietnam is going to benefit.

Duterte today, from Beijing, officially announces his "split - militarily and economically" with the USA. He went on to announce "It's (now) three of us against the world... China, Russia and the Philippines".
I guess it is the Chinese navy's turn to get laid in the Subic Bay port for the next few decades. We'll see if Duterte becomes the filipino Fidel Castro, or just a flash in the pan.
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/10/p ... 26993.htmlHe also repeated his denunciation of Obama as a "son of a whore".
