Venezuela on the brink of collapse.
The people queuing up for hours upon hours for food in, say...Venezuela, should be happy about it...if you accept the advice from US Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders in this old clip. Food lines are a good thing, he believes.
Meanwhile, Maduro has closed the border with Brazil to block American-provided food and other humanitarian supplies from reaching Venezuelans. He may as well be running Jonestown, as he obviosuly prefers his people starve in isolation than get fed by pesky foreigners. What the locals now call "the Maduro diet".

But the food scarcity situation in Venezuela can't be all that bad because at least Maduro can scarf down food while taking phone calls from "his supporters" when he thinks the camera isn't on him.

These days Bernie is a social democrat not a socialist.McPhisto wrote:The people queuing up for hours upon hours for food in, say...Venezuela, should be happy about it...if you accept the advice from US Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders in this old clip. Food lines are a good thing, he believes.

Bernie is of "The grass is always greener" philosophy. I sure wish he had to live in Venezuela for a while, and not as a leader.

China did the next best thing, their currency is still devalued to the point where they will always come out ahead. When I was there in 2010, I went to buy an overcoat and found it was 3X the price I could buy it at almost any store in America, and yes, it was "Made In China". I looked at lots of other things while I was there too and the story was the same. The only things I found really cheaper were the "Recently manufactured antiques".McPhisto wrote:A new currency. Problem sorted! Why hasn't anyone thought of this miracle economic solution before? On Tuesday, President Nicolas Maduro introduced a new currency, dropping five zeros and devaluing the “sovereign bolivars” by 96 percent.

Interestingly, there is a little spat developing between Richard Branson and Roger Waters over the question of AID. I think Mr Waters is on the ball here - viz, that so-called International AID usually hides behind a ... erm... hidden agenda. as a nefarious agent of what I consider to be: deliberate misappropriation of huge sums of money to foment discontent, while concealing itself under a veneer of respectability/caring.
I read this on the BBC website this morning, but it seems to have been pulled. (* Edit* Couldn't find it.)
Here is the same from the Guardian:

Oh, after much searching, found the Beeb piece:

Those with a cynical mind will see how heavily this piece has been loaded to paint a negative picture of the candidate the US (shadow government) don't want in place.

^ what a load of your ususal idiotic bollocks. If there is no severe food crisis in Venezuela, then Maduro wouldn't need to close the border and have his goons stop and attack those receiving it and bringing the food into the country. People are risking their lives going to get the food over the border because they and their families back home are fucking starving.
(with video)
Deadly clashes have erupted in border towns across Venezuela as opposition activists try to bring aid into the country across government blockades.
Troops have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters. There have been reports of some security force members abandoning their posts and defecting.
President Nicolás Maduro has partially closed the country's borders to try to stop the aid being delivered.
At least two people are reported to have been shot dead in Saturday's clashes near the country's border with Brazil. Another two were killed close by on Friday.

They would much rather see their people starve than relinquish any control or admit the system failed.

Not sure your point. You think this disproves the devastating economic crisis in Venezuela? And you think the average Venezuelan has US dollars and can afford to buy those goods? It would take ten carts full of local currency notes to buy anything shown there.
Here is another video form that same guy who explains that fact himself. Notice how completely empty the store is of local shoppers. Grow up, Harold. Seriously.
My "point" is that it is a funny video and it is related to Venezuela. I hate Maduro and Chavez as you can see from my posts on the first page of this thread so I don't know what you're going on about.
I'm not convinced that President Chavez should be concerned about the fact that our esteemed poster "Harold" hates him, considering he's long been dead and all. My guess is that Maduro will join him soon, albeit in a more violent fashion, unless he weasels his way out to asylum.
Chavez is dead but his hate filled ideology lives on in the hearts of millions.
