Venezuela on the brink of collapse.
Venezuela on the brink of collapse.
Today the us govt. Banned the purchase of all new forms of debt from the Venezuela govt. and state owned businesses.
The country with the largest oil reserves worldwide is in a serious political crisis since 2015 and in hyperinflation, currently a Venezuelan surgeon makes barely 100$ a month, much less than in Cambodia.
Public hospitals are running out of medicine and gasoline prices increased over 6000%.
Water and food are rationed as well as electricity, all public services are falling apart.
If the government will now be unable to find buyers for its ballooning debt outside the us the country will default.
Since the Venezuelan economy is based on oil exports and most of the consumer products are imported a default where the currency becomes worthless will likely plunge the country into massive civil unrest.
The murder rate is skyrocketing and the local government is turning into a police state.
What do you think?
Will Venezuela make it out of the crisis or will it collapse?
Currently the larger bond holders still retain a degree of confidence that China or russia will step in but with these new sanctions and possibly more the chances of a economic collapse are increasing.

I got the impression that the whole place has just descended more and more into shit for years, and the place is pretty much fucked. So it collapsed already. I pity the citizens.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Same failed economic and social model that some clueless lefty wacko hysterical nutjobs would love to implement in the US. Free goodies for everyone, as long as you vote the way we tell you to. Fuck the wealthy, they'll foot the bill and like it. It's not like they create jobs or anything, those useless greedy fuckers. How dare they want more than others. Everyone can work for the government and the government can take what it wants from private hands! What a utopia it will be. I can't wait....

In the past, Bernie Sanders praised Chavez and compared the United States unfavorably to Venezuela. Sanders has been quite aloof on the topic of Venezuela now that Chavez's house of cards has come tumbling down under Maduro.
The problem is that they didn't have enough socialism. If they only had some more they would be OK.

I love socialism. I especially love telling Americans that the US is the largest socialist country in the world. Always great times.Alexandra wrote:The problem is that they didn't have enough socialism. If they only had some more they would be OK.

The United States is not a socialist country and it has never had a socialist government in its history.

U.S. isn't socialist? Not like Norway or Sweden. But what about Obamacare? Or medicaid. Teddy Roosevelt broke up the trusts, oil, steel. The same is coming for the likes of Amazon. Maybe a little socialist?
