North Korea flies missile over Japan.
Tsunamis, earthquakes, nuclear reactor disasters, missile threats...no wonder the Japanese are so polite - they're grateful just to be alive.

Yeah, unfortunately the median age is so high there and the young people are so busy looking at cartoons that they'll all be dead in no time.Londo wrote:Tsunamis, earthquakes, nuclear reactor disasters, missile threats...no wonder the Japanese are so polite - they're grateful just to be alive.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
North Korea successfully tested another nuclear device, this one they claim to be a hydrogen bomb capable of fitting on a ballistic missile (which they showed photos of the day before).
This regime should have been removed from the planet before they got close to this stage, which the majority of posters in a previous thread believed wasn't going to happen and any pre-emptive military intervention would be absolutely morally wrong. Brilliant.

The past decade's debate just became obsolete. I think it's now or never to resolve this by military means. Many innocent people will die, both northern and southern. Welcome to the new cold war.

Probably not. Your hair mightl start falling out shortly after, though.Felgerkarb wrote:I wonder if we will hear the blasts from PP?

What a damn shame. We go into Iraq (which was a massive trumped up lie made maliciously by those assholes and the now charming George W.) and create hell on earth. That didn't need to happen, it was immoral, but we kick the can down the road on NK and now????Alexandra wrote:The past decade's debate just became obsolete. So dumb
Probably another ballistic missile test from North Korea this week. Maybe on 9/9. Will they fulfill their promise to send a missile (or several) just off the coast of Guam? If so, will the US attempt to shoot it down with their only sporadically effective Aegis Combat System? A successful launch by NK and a failed intercept by the US would be quite an embarrassment.
Hard to see how this resolves peacefully unless South Korea recalculates, sides with China and tells the US to pack up get the fuck out. I hope they do, but seems a long shot.

A united Korea under King Kong rule is mildly put impossible. Great Leader is fucked, but so are millions of innocent civilians. Sigh.

Yeah, you can still find it on Google Earth on the shores of Chang-suwon lake. Sihanouk was a good friend of Kim Il Sung, not so much of his son Kim Jong-il or grandson. It's not Angkor-styled, it's Korean:pedros wrote:Is sihanouk's fake castles of Angkor holiday home still standing somewhere near Pyongyang?

I know they were bff, but sure I read somewhere that a replica Angkor wat was built somewhere in North Korea, as a gift to sihanouk.
Maybe I dreamt it.

Wouldn't have to be a reunification, just an agreement for mutual co-existence between North and South and a full withdrawal of US forces/bases from the peninsula. No more joint military maneuvers with nuclear-capable B-1 bombers flying overhead as a provocative show of force. Let them deal with their problems and then deal with future consequences of their decisions on their own, regardless of the possible severity of those consequences. Gradual easing of economic sanctions. Should please everybody, except the US chickenhawks who demand to maintain as much military power as possible right on China's doorstep.Alexandra wrote:A united Korea under King Kong rule is mildly put impossible. Of course it won't happen, for foolish politician pride ("He's weak on defense!") and the military-industrial complex's stranglehold on US foreign policy. But that is the obvious solution.
