Wrong country, Harold.
Never mind, you can advise Boris Johnson.

For some reason, I thought there were more Boers in Rhodesia. Anyways, I still stand by my last comment. I used to know a Boer who fled from Rhodesia and moved to South Africa before immigrating to the United States. He was the most openly racist person I've ever known and he would make even racists like RobW and Playboy and hatemongers like scobienz and Jacked Camry blush.son of vladimir wrote:Hahaha., the Boer?Harold wrote:Mugabe certainly is a great man but he needs to step aside. Instead of taking in millions of African refugees, why don't Europeans take in Boers and White South Africans? I won't talk too much trash about Mandela but I think that he was far too conciliatory to the Whites and that his willingness to reconcile with them has become a source of endless conflict in South Africa.
The only thing black people seem capable of in that part of Africa is to destroy what the whites did. Its sad as they are very decent people, just seemingly incapable of leading themselves.

I know you're just stirring shit, but I'd argue that Mandela's approach has led to far less conflict than what could've been possible had he gone the Mugabe route. White South Africans numbered in their millions, and due to conscription, a bulk of the men had military training. Add the control of a vast majority of the country's resources and access to weapons. The blacks are much higher in number but whites could've gotten the coloureds and Indians (both of whom distrust the blacks immensely) and you'd be looking at a reasonably level playing field, at least level enough for the situation to get seriously ugly for both sides had Mandela been openly hostile.Harold wrote:For some reason, I thought there were more Boers in Rhodesia. Isn't Mugabe likely much more of a racist than most of those white farmers he kicked out of the now - ''2nd poorest country on earth'' ?
And has he still got that little Hitler tache ?

The bigger problem was the post-colonial rebel movements in the neighboring countries (SWAPO, FAPLA, FRELIMO, etc), where the SADF and it's proxies like RENAMO were under huge pressure. The wars in these countries were a large factor in bringing an end to the apartheid government.Starving Pelican wrote:

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

This move means little for the average person in Zimbabwe. It's simply the inevitable result of a power struggle within the ruling party over succession, with the military intervening to ensure that Grace Mugabe's hated G-40 clique doesn't slide into power when her husband dies. It's telling that the 'coup' leader in the Zimbabwe military was in China just a few days before making the move. Beijing would have okayed this - even prompted it - given their desire to retain influence in a part of the world they rely on for much needed mineral and metal resources.
