A Florida man is fighting for his life after he fell from an Indonesian rooftop chasing a monkey that stole his Pittsburgh Steelers cap.
Jeff “Swede” Swedenhjelm, 40, is currently paralyzed from the chest down after he fell 33 feet from a roof in Bali on Monday.

I saw a monkey up a mango tree stealing mangos the other day, here in Phnom Penh (not too far from TTP). I was surprised as I thought the monkeys in the city were limited to Wat Phnom and the surrounding blocks (wherever they can walk to on the wires). A friend said they used to see a lot in Tonle Bassac neighborhood last year. So, are there more monkeys about in the city than I realized?

Either that or their natural habit is rapidly disappearing.Miguelito wrote:I saw a monkey up a mango tree stealing mangos the other day, here in Phnom Penh (not too far from TTP). Let me rephrase that question then:Hanno wrote:Either that or their natural habit is rapidly disappearing.Miguelito wrote:I saw a monkey up a mango tree stealing mangos the other day, here in Phnom Penh (not too far from TTP). In the rapidly disappearing natural habitat of the indigenous Cercopithecidae (Old World monkeys), of the genus Macaca (but not to exclude the possible Pygathrix nigripes or Trachypithecus villosus germaini), within the borders of the current municipal of Krong Chaktomuk (commonly referred in short as "Phnom Penh"), what is the population density of all families of "monkeys", and where, outside of the Wat Phnom neighborhood, are they commonly spotted?

You can sometimes see them around pagodas. The ones at Wat Phnom were apparently put there in the 80s to attract tourists (not that there were too many tourists around then). Most were removed a few years ago because they were a nuisance.Miguelito wrote:I saw a monkey up a mango tree stealing mangos the other day, here in Phnom Penh (not too far from TTP). Used to get a few swinging by our joint behind the palace. They'd come occasionally grabbing all the fruit offerings on the balconies as they pillaged their way through.
Used to get a few cheeky buggers around our apartment in TTP...after being sprayed with water a couple times they learnt to stay away from our terrace.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Found an old photo from when we lived on 184, image is poor as it was taken through the window with an old Nokia.

When I lived between the GPO and river way back loads of monkeys used to doze under my roof, the balcony had chain link all around but it wasn't always effective. They were awful bastards, when they managed to get in they would destroy everything.

Always remember those little buggers terrorizing me in prachuap khiri khan. Was walking up the steps to some old temple and one latched on to my 7/11 plastic bag so i pulled it away from him but the not so little bugger wrapped himself around my leg, looked up at me with mouth agape showing his fangs. The plastic bag split and the contents spilled out.
Monkey 1 Human 0.
If you could use one word to describe them it would be thief. Fascinating to watch though.....apart from maybe the big boss male with the big balls. He's mean.
