I think that's the point, no?
For individuals, It's about ownership, and who profits from one's own work, innovation, etc, beyond just paying for necessities.
Of course everyone could start their own business, ignoring for a moment monopolies, collusion, simple economies of scale, ability to borrow cash, etc that make it a risible suggestion.
But succeeding in business is just a particular skill - Why should the rewards for it be so much more open-ended, and amplified, than, say, being a good surgeon?
Don't tell me risk, that's a fairy tale.
Capitalists get rich by owning all the profits generated by the people "beholden to them", and that is further amplified by asset/land ownership etc (and often, political meddling and other dodgy dealing; did I mention fractional reserve banking and modern finance?).
Some of them skip the business bit entirely and simply own "productive assets".
That amplification is what causes extreme inequality.
