Sure litteJC, i'll admit to weak irony if you admit to being disturbed.ABitLikeJesus wrote:Well you know what they say about opinions....RainMan wrote:So you don't like Putin?ABitLikeJesus wrote:Russia is a police state, pure and simple. This assassination is useful to Putin in several ways, for example he can use the response to boost his narrative of the international persecution of Russia, the distraction of the people from the true nature of his corrupt regime. The execution of a traitor will also be popular with those who buy into the extreme nationalism he has been pushing.
Dissent is growing in Russia. The opposition are becoming stronger. They are still weak and Putin is secure for now, but they do have a history of revolution. I hope and dream that one day we will see this butcher swinging from a lamp post.
It is quite likely that RT will be banned from broadcasting in the UK. That can't come soon enough. There are sadly a lot of gullable fools out there who are willing to believe the propaganda, unable to see their agenda of western destabilisation.

A person who calls himself ABitLikeJesus and then dreams of people swinging from a lamp post is disturbing, your morbid vitriol is not worth shit paper.
As for the nickname, it's one a friend of mine gave me a long time ago. You are called RainMan, and believe me I have respect for people on the spectrum, many of you have lived very successful and meaningful lives. You have to admit though you are a bit weak when it comes to irony.

That's not exactly accurate, whatsoever. The U.S. Justice Department stated that RT (in America) had received payments from a foreign principal identified as ANO TV-Novosti, a Russian media company. In announcing the filing, the Justice Department called ANO TV-Novosti a “Russian government entity.’’ The paperwork lists Mikhail V. Solodovnikov as the sole owner of T&R. Afterwards, RT America decided to comply and they filed paperwork with the Justice Department to register as foreign agent. They are still allowed to broadcast, though.vladimir wrote: America tried to muzzle RT...so much for freedom of press.
RT files paperwork with Justice Department to register as foreign agent
After that, Google and Twitter got in a fight with RT and the Kremlin, as the executive chairman of Google's parent company, Alphabet, when asked why Russian-backed sites enjoy favorable placement on Google's platforms, he said, “We are working on detecting this kind of scenario … de-ranking those kinds of sites. It’s basically RT and Sputnik are the two." He added that the company does not want to ban the outlets. And according to Google, the company does not re-rank individual websites.
Google is getting pulled into a fight with Russia over RT and Sputnik
On a side note, I've been inside the RT America TV station, and met many of the staff there. Some alright people just looking for an interesting job and trying to gain experience, and some complete nutters. The staff is almost all Americans, who don't speak Russian and have no connection to Russia. The one exception is the head of it, who is Russian (and I think he wife was working there as well). They actually get little direction from Russia and what to air, but the head of the place seemed to have one criteria for news: anything that made the U.S. look bad was a priority. This could be some local dispute in Michigan over pig farming, or the NSA spying scandal. Anything to discredit the U.S. government was priority number one. It's strange as I actually think RT outside of America does an OK job on some reporting, but in the U.S. it is crazy the things they say, and the guests they get on board to interview. They will interview some conspiracy theorists via skype from the basement of their mother's home. The fact that millions of American watch RT America is scary. But, they have not been "muzzled" by the U.S.
Again, not same difference at all. You seem to have a tendency lately to not even attempt to make a solid argument or point, but instead try to draw parallels between two very different things, call them the same thing, and then declare victory.vladimir wrote: America classifies stuff so that it can't be published..same difference.
So why aren't Deutsche Welle, France24, BBC, etc. expected to register as foreign agents? Why don't they seem to be having trouble with Google?
RT definitely is biased against the US and very pro-Russian but nobody should be surprised because the name is "Russia Today" after all. Anyways, they most certainly do give a lot of air time to conspiracy theorists and nutjobs but so do other media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, Fox, BBC, and Deutsche Welle. Just think of all the ridiculous conspiracy theories about Trump colluding with the Russians and the Russians “hacking" the elections.
It seems like this is a contemporary manifestation of Russophobia to me and continental Europeans need to be particularly careful to not get carried away with their rhetoric. It wasn't too long ago that thousands of Spaniards marched under the banner of the swastika in order to fight the godless half Asiatic hordes from the east. They committed innumerable war crimes against the Russians and Russians still haven't fully recovered from the disastrous effects of the last great war.

Harold, I'm disappointed you didn't ask me why I was in the TV station there. I was actually interviewed as an Armenian to talk about the Nagorna-Karabach conflict. You should find the footage, it was great.

It's selective, it's muzzling.
To try and state otherwise is BS, pure and simple.
Freedom of press, yeah, right. Unless you're not in the club.
Innocent until proven guilty, right. Unless it doesn't suit our agenda.
Human rights and democracy, yeah right. Unless Israel/Saudi/the US/UK are involved.
Laughable.

As a Brit I'd still concur with Vlad, the BBC has gone to the dogs - 8/10 articles are about what's going on in the USA, it certainly can no longer claim to be impartial, there's an agenda, & it isn't pretty. Football section is still good though. For Man United fans.

Just to give you your fix of UK news - yesterday, Ant McPartlin from Ant & Dec was in the news ;

"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
Haha, thanks Benny - where did you fish that out, Daily Mail website - what a time to be alive!

Not sure about the others but the Netherlands does not have free speech at all.vladimir wrote:Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, SAHarold wrote:In fact, the United States of America is the only country that I'm aware of that has freedom of speech, unlike the UK, France, or Russia.

None but ourselves can free our mind.
Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Netherlands, and SA all have "hate speech" legislation which means that there is no freedom of speech.

They have rules against hate speech, it's a degree of freedom thing. SA for example banned the ' K' word because they were trying to avoid a civil war...a fair trade-off in my opinion. It's pretty much banned in the US as the ' N' word, as well.Harold wrote:Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Netherlands, and SA all have "hate speech" legislation which means that there is no freedom of speech.

I would go so far as to say that the US has very little free speech...in some schools they are discouraging/banning the use of gender-specific pronouns
I think holocaust deniers are like flat-earthers, completely nutty.
It obviously happened. If people want to discuss the details of it, that's another thing entirely, and I agree it should be not only allowed, but encouraged.
If it happened, and the circumstances/details are fact, let doubters find out and be educated.
