Yay!
Also known as the Original Nightstalker and the Visalia ransacker before that, the evil twisted mutherfucker has been caught and identified by DNA tying him to his crimes in the 1970s to 1980s. Former cop, perennial cocksucking douchebag murdering rapist bastard asshole prick. Fuck you forever Joseph James Deangelo. Please put him in a secluded prison cell wearing a dress and lipstick along with lots of angry, horny, racist, rapist inmates and give them all some privacy.
More satisfying than the killing of Bin Laden.

Golden State killer/East Area Rapist caught
Judging by the lack of views of this thread, seems no one else here is interested in this story but I'll update it anyway. The evil rapist fucker was finally rolled into court today, handcuffed to a wheelchair Hannibal Lecter-style. Great sight to see. They should have just hogtied him with his own shoelaces, the way he usually did to his MANY rape and murder victims.
What is interesting is how investigators finally identified him. Although the rapist's DNA was collected at the time from the rape victims bodies, the DNA mapping science took until the 1990s to fully come of age. But the DNA swabs collected from the rape victims never matched any DNA patterns in any criminal DNA database, which only holds DNA forcibly collected from felons (a practice that began in part due to the many unsolved East Area Rapist cases). This cunt was never previously caught and convicted as a felon, so his DNA was not in any such database.
In just the past few years or so some private, voluntary DNA mapping services have sprung up offering people the opportunity to more fully trace their ancestry by submitting their own DNA sample to a lab for a fee. The Prosecutors Office got access to some of those voluntary DNA databases (controversially) and quickly found some similar matches to the East Area Rapist's DNA, apparently from some distant cousins of the prick. Four months of eliminating suspects eventually led to Deangelo. I imagine some investigators obtained DNA directly from Deangelo by going through his garbage and testing for saliva on his discarded beer cans or whatever, which gave them grounds for his arrest when the results came in.
Awful that he got to live 40 years as a free man after his crimes seemingly stopped, but he will face his surviving victims and justice will be finally done upon him. I hope he lives a long, horrible life in prison as a sex offender. I understand those types are not well-treated in the pen.

Wow, thanks for sharing. That is super interesting, and I bet very controversial in the U.S. to get DNA like that, but good for them.
Did you remember the story of this guy from before? I had never heard of him.

No, I had never heard of this case at all until CNN (I think) did a 3 or 4 part documentary on the long-unsolved Golden State Killer/East Area Rapist cases literally just a couple weeks ago. Amazing timing for them. His crime spree was horrific and went on and on for well over a decade, with his attacks becoming worse and increasingly brutal. He is tied to over 100 burglaries, in addition to 50 home invasion rapes and at least 13 murders. Possibly many more we will never know. He terrorized sleepy central California throughout the 70s and 80s and devastated many lives.Miguelito wrote:Wow, thanks for sharing. He wasn't a silent killer either. He regularly called police to taunt them and sometimes phoned his previous rape victims years later and terrorized them further. Here is his voice recorded on one of those calls to a past rape victim (note the sounds of the caller's family life going on in the background during his call):

To me, one of the most interesting tidbits is that he was fired from his job as a cop for getting caught shoplifting a hammer and dog repellent. Who needs dog repellent, other than mailmen and rapists?

I had the same thought, which led to me wondering if the police were merely incompetent or if they had their heads in the sand, or were covering up.gavinmac wrote:To me, one of the most interesting tidbits is that he was fired from his job as a cop for getting caught shoplifting a hammer and dog repellent. The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.

You expect them to start murder investigations when people are caught for shoplifting?

So he took time to tie up the victims with specific knots, and likely only got aroused with the bondage part of it?
His neighbors say he was prone to losing control and he got off on controlling his victims.
I guess he might have learnt these knots in the navy, and he also served in Vietnam.

It will be interesting to see what kind of defense he can put up. I will assume the police don't have a murder weapon, or an eyewitness who can identify him, or any incriminating statements from him. If his DNA was at the scene of a rape/murder, he can say "I was having an affair with the wife but didn't kill her."
That's a little harder for the rape victims who are still alive, as they can refute it. It's also quite problematic if his DNA is at multiple crime scenes; maybe he'll claim that he responded to the crime scenes as a police officer and that's how his DNA got there.
I hear that a SWAT team grabbed him by surprise as he was exiting his house. I'm a little surprise that the police didn't try a ruse of sending a detective from the the cold case squad to knock on his door and say "We're investigating this serial killer and we're reaching out to all local law enforcement officers from this time period to see if you remember anything that can help." Then try to get the guy talking. Maybe he would say he didn't know the victims or that he didn't go to the crime scenes. Then whatever he says you immediately serve a search warrant on his house and off you go.

Apparently, the killer shouted "I hate you Bonnie" to one of his victims. DeAngelo was once engaged to a woman named Bonnie. So that's not good for him.

The article also says that he has been interviewed by the police, which would be quite dumb of him.
