I'm inclined to agree with Mister Duterte on this.
Asking "Who is this stupid God?", Mr Duterte criticised the Biblical story of creation and Adam and Eve being thrown out of the Garden of Eden after they ate the "forbidden fruit".
"You created something perfect and then you think of an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of your work," he said.
The president also slammed the concept of original sin - whereby all humans are tainted by Adam and Eve's wrongdoing - saying: "You weren't born yet, but now you have original sin."
"What kind of religion is that? I can't accept it."

Quite the philosopher, he is.
But say something similar about Islam and get fatwas calling for your beheading.

Indeed. And I'd be willing to bet there are just as many Christian Fundamentalists in the US and elsewhere who would willingly take Mr Duterte down for daring to voice his opinion.
To me, it just shows how religion has become a sharpened tool to divide and rule. I mean sharpened in the last twenty years or so, after a gap of some three hundred years of so-called 'enlightenment'.
Migs, it is interesting you should say that. I was teaching in Mandalay 1997 - 1999 and it was amazing how often Burmese folk would say similar things of U Ne Win's Tatmadaw: order & rule of Law prevailed. Perhaps a similar thing could be said of similar crack-down regimes in history (including the 'rule' of the Kray Twins in East London) - fear leads to order.
I don't know much about the Philippines - I shall leave that to poster Gilmore to comment on if he wishes (he has written several travel books on that country) - but I do like the way Mr Duterte has challenged the Catholic beliefs.

Well, he clearly believes in his own God. Demigod.A few weeks ago he made headlines by making an overseas Filipina worker kiss him on stage during a live event.
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
Filipinos are great believers, but they have enormous difficulty understanding the difference between fantasy and reality. The gangster Estrada was elected because they believed he was the same person as the character he played in movies-a dedicated crime and corruption fighter. Duterte created a WWE style persona as the Punisher-the man who single-handedly destroyed the drug trade in his home city, Davao. He would visit the local jail dressed as a cowboy, shoot supposed escapees, then pose for photos with a smoking gun and one foot on the corpse. In reality, it was about his gang taking control of crime in the city, but Filipinos swallowed it.
Like Buddhism in SE Asia, Filipino Catholicism incorporates many elements of animism. They focus on the mystical and miraculous elements, then combine it with spirit worship and even voodoo, which arrived during the Spanish era. It surprises me that he would try to portray the Church as the enemy of the people, but it suggests he may have grandiose long term ambitions for a man of such advanced years. He may be trying to show he is immortal and a semi-divine figure-he would have little difficulty finding enough suckers to believe it.

Fantasy and reality...Catholic church tries to ban condom advertising in Manila, 'this promotes promiscuity and corrupts youth ....https://www.ucanews.com/news/philippine ... -ban/70283
A stupid God or maybe just a stupid Catholic fantasy.
