Journalist Hugo Rifkind came up with a particularly unusual analogy for where Theresa May and Brexit are right now and it went viral because it was funny and totally accurate at the same time.
Here’s what he said.
1.
Here follows a Brexit thread.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
2.
Sorry.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
3.
The thing is, the best way to understand Theresa May’s predicament is to imagine that 52 percent of Britain had voted that the government should build a submarine out of cheese.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
4.
Now, Theresa May was initially against building a submarine out of cheese, obviously. Because it’s a completely insane thing to do.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
5.
However, in order to become PM, she had to pretend that she thought building a submarine out of cheese was fine and could totally work.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
6.
“Cheese means cheese,” she told us all, madly.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
7.
Then she actually built one.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
8.
It’s shit. Of course it is. For God’s sake, are you stupid? It’s a submarine built out of cheese.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
9.
So now, having built a shit cheese submarine, she has to put up with both Labour and Tory Brexiters insisting that a less shit cheese submarine could have been built.

They’re all lying, and they know it. So does everybody else. We’ve covered this already, I know, but it’s cheese and it’s a submarine. How good could it possibly be?
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
11.
Only she can’t call them out on this. Because she has spent the past two years also lying, by pretending she really could build a decent submarine out of cheese.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
12.
So that’s where we are.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018
13.
On balance, I this analogy works fine, perhaps except for the submarine and cheese parts, which need a little work.
— Hugo Rifkind (@hugorifkind) December 10, 2018

Thread ends.

And this is what people said about it.
Why is Nigel Fromage not taking part in this ?

So May is still PM. Good.
Just get on with it!
(I’m pretty sure May originally was a remainer?)

What a dumb asshole you are @logoslogos wrote:I always have to laugh when I see that idiotic line "the people have decided".springrain wrote:It must happen. That is what the people have decided.
One cannot ride roughshod over a genuine vote.
Do you mean the 20 million clueless idiots who swallowed Boris Johnson and Nigel farage's blatant lies about how much better life will be when Britain is great again? where is that bus with the banner "300 million pounds a week to the NHS"?
I wonder how much of it was orchestrated by Russians with that sleazy guy Bannon. They certainly had Britain's best interests at heart
Eloquent insight, Billy. Please elaborate. Maybe McPhisto, the forum know-it-all, might come to your rescue, as you're not very bright.BillyB wrote:What a dumb asshole you are @logoslogos wrote:I always have to laugh when I see that idiotic line "the people have decided".springrain wrote:It must happen. So you guys reckon Putin and Bannon want a strong Europe ? That they were in fact anti Brexit? I would love to hear your fascinating theories about that.
