UK political shitshow
Britain is turning into Europe's basket case again, like in the 70's with Scargill. 60-70% uneducated plebs who never completed high school, gangs of drunk females in the streets every Saturday night, the stabbing capital of the world and an upper class that never gave a shit. I'm starting to think the earlier they leave the better off the rest of Europe will be. The good ones are already living abroad anyway and most of those have a second passport.

All this is a bit like when Geri Halliwell overestimated her viability as a solo artist and decided to leave the Spice Girls.
...then he smiled again, and slipped away, further on up the stream

It's interesting to note that the Guardian used to be (when it was the Manchester Guardian) an 'anti-establishment' newspaper. Unfortunately, it (like the so-called Independent), has morphed into a we -who-dare-to-tell-the-truth ... SOMETIMES rag.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 6:26 amFOR YOUR EYES ONLY

Oh, I am not denying that there have been some wonderful articles buried in the archives. But, all too often these days, this once-great paper adopts a supercilious tone while propagating the New World Order.

The Guardian still plays the same role it always has. Why you believe they have suddenly changed stance I'm not sure. If you can advise me on a UK based news source that is anyway better or more credible I'd be interested. Take your time to answer.springrain wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 2:26 pmIt's interesting to note that the Guardian used to be (when it was the Manchester Guardian) an 'anti-establishment' newspaper. Mate, I can't be so supercilious (don't you just love that word?) as to 'advise' the great LL, but here is my take on your question:
As I’m sure you know, the newspaper was started as a a result of the Peterloo incident in 1819, when protesters against the rotten electoral system (and the Corn Laws) voiced their concerns in St Peter’s Fields and were charged at by armed Hussars for their troubles. The paper started in 1921.
The paper was funded by a trust known as the Scott Trust soon after and was intended to protect journalistic independence after accounts of Peterloo were seriously distorted and/or repressed altogether.
The MG pointed out, correctly in my opinion, that strikes were caused by paid agitators. (This is a tactic that has been used to discredit social reform even since the days of the Peasants’ Revolt in 1381.)
It was at its zenith in the years of the CP Scott Trust (editor 1872 - 1929) and joint-owner from 1907. Sure, (in my opinion) it has made mistakes, such as supporting the Balfour Declaration of 1917, but many genuine social reformers were similarly deceived by that insidious decision.
Anyway, the Scott Trust’s principles were closely followed by CP Scott’s sons.
I believe that the turning point was the launch of The Independent in 1986 (an event I remember well, for I was a newsagent when the first edition of The Indy was launched!)
I honestly think that the sincerity (and radicalism) of the articles has declined since that event.
There have still been some fantastic articles (which I have sometimes posted up on this forum.)
For me, the sleaze allegations of 1997 - 1999, which led (directly or indirectly) to the election of the lying piece of garbage, Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, show how the editorial slant has changed, over the years - by stealth, not overnight - to favour the New World Order.
There will still be outstanding journalistic pieces, but, I fear, these will be fewer & fewer.
The answer to your question, LL, in italics, is my answer in my own words, mate.
I have added a few opinions (in brackets) because I'm a bolshy sod, as you know!

"All these options were not necessarily dead, Letwin said. “It’s very difficult to translate how people vote the first time, when they don’t know how other people are voting, to how they will vote when they can see how other people are voting, under new circumstances. So I don’t think one should make any assumptions about how it will be on Monday.”
I agree Mr Letwin, the people should get a second vote.
He was talking about the indicative votes, btw.

As for colonialism accusations it's a longstanding Belgian tradition not to interfere with what's going on in your neighbour cellar, therefore I won't discuss Britain's colonial history either.

I like Belgium, or the speed bump as the Germans call it.
