From the same source...When we look to religion, however, there is little agreement. The three main schools of thought are that the Nazis adhered to neo-paganism, that their ideology itself formed a "political religion" or that they advocated a particular form of Christianity.
The argument that the Nazis were pagans derives from the fact they arose from the ultra-nationalist volkisch movement in Germany, which had a bizarre range of esoteric and mystical religious notions.
Hitler was certainly aware of the ideas of one of the most influential authors, Guido von List, who sought to rediscover the lost wisdom of the "Armanen," supposedly a high-caste of the priesthood of the pagan god Wotan (or Odin).
He proposed to do so principally through runes and Norse poetry like the Edda.
https://www.abc.net.au/religion/hitlers ... n/10100614In one of the most complete speeches we have of Hitler's from 1920, he made direct references to some of List's concepts and argued that all Aryans built "cults of light" wherever they had founded civilisations in the world.
Hitler included any use of the swastika (the Nazi sun-wheel) counting pagan runes in Europe, Hindu temples in India and Buddhist temples in Japan among such "cults of light."
In the same speech he disparaged the Bible as too Jewish: "one thing is for certain, that no anti-Semite wrote it." Yet at the end of August 1920, he argued the Nazis "supported every Christian activity" and promoted Nazism as a "gospel of German revitalisation."
This latter statement and its ilk have led to the argument that Nazism itself was a "political religion," drawing people into a movement of political faith through the use of rallies and rituals that created a secular kind of liturgical experience.
Racist ideology was something that all Nazis held in common, and there were certainly ideas of forming a "new cult" in some writings and speeches from Party members, though a good deal of the argument rests on the manner in which Hitler wrote on religion and political faith in Mein Kampf.
There are numerous academics who have written about Hitler and leading Nazis connection to the occult. This is a good one.
Hitler's Monsters: A Supernatural History of the Third Reich
The definitive history of the supernatural in Nazi Germany, exploring the occult ideas, esoteric sciences, and pagan religions touted by the Third Reich in the service of power.

From The Times review of the above book:
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/revi ... -rthwwgqz2Himmler, it turns out, was an old hippy. The Reichsführer SS was, writes Eric Kurlander in this absorbing study, “obsessed with natural healing and rejected many aspects of modern medicine. Among various alternative medical practices, he studied herbalism, homeopathy, mesmerism and naturopathy.
He also followed the advice of ariosophic thinkers . . . [who] believed that practising yoga could release cosmic energies tied to astral bodies . . . ”

Hitler had only 1 big ball,
Goering had 2 but they were small,
Himmler had something similar while
Goebbels had no balls at all
Religion is just another facade the zealots use to do what they do.

Fanatics of any type will grasp at major headings e.g. religion, nationalism etc... to justify their actions, and not forgetting the rudderless who are looking for an identity or meaning so as to have the 'vehicle' to express their disturbed selves.lowlife coward wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 6:44 pmor you could take the view that religion produces the zealots or that zealots are attracted to religion like bees to honey
Perhaps many among us don't filter or discern these events, instead wanting to run with the ignorant view that religion or a country as a whole is responsible.

Or it could just be that political leaders, including Hitler, use religion as a means to justify what they are doing. Most religions, and religious people I know, abhor violence and veiw it as a means of last resort to protect themselves, their families, or innocents. Yes bad things have been done, and are still being done, in the names of many religions. Does that mean that most religious people are zealots, no, and they shouldn't be tarred with that brush!lowlife coward wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 2:29 amcouldnt be bothered looking for the pictures but have seen them with hitler in presence of bishops and troops doing religious type things.

FYI: LAST SUMMER -- I rode my bicycle ALL around Sri Lanka -- about 2000 kilometres -- up and down the mountains north of Kandy to the Cultural Triangle, and then further north to the lovely remote coastal areas, continuing to Jaffna. I took a train back down to Batticaloa and continued south to Arugam Bay and then rode back up into the highlands to Ella, and then south again to Galle, wow... Such a gorgeous place!
FACT: SRI LANKA is a paradise that makes CAMBODIA look like a dump. I have never seen so many lovely tropical birds, like peacocks running through the fields, several kinds of monkeys and so many hundreds of different varieties of trees and flowers, not to mention the gorgeous tea gardens full of exotic flowering trees, and yet more abundant wildlife living side by side with the people... The biosphere of Sri Lanka has not yet been destroyed so totally as it has in poor Cambodia. Colombo puts on a massive annual book fair in September that makes Cambodia's equivalent look a bit woeful and pathetic. Education in Cambodia has been deliberately hamstrung by the corrupt regime, which prefers to create dummies, not smarties. As you may have noticed. Anyway.
So anyway, back on topic: it is very sad indeed that the religious nuts are at it again. Killing with their bombs. Because Sri Lankans are so much more sophisticated and better educated than most other people in South East Asia. Unfortunately, the politicians are, like the rest of those typical to South and South East Asia -- selfish and power-mad. The bombings happened in consequence of a political tiff between the Prime Minister and the President: the top police became more incompetent and complacent than usual, apparently as a result of having to take sides in the idiotic feud between the two heads of government. I think the President and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka should both resign and call elections...
How unfortunate: that people in power can grow so idle and complacent that building walls instead of bridges becomes their basic modus operandi...
