Alabama now officially has the strictest abortion law in the US.
As expected, Gov. Kay Ivey on Wednesday signed the controversial Alabama Human Life Protection Act, which outlaws almost all abortions in the state, nearly 24 hours after the Republican-controlled Senate voted to send her the bill without adding exceptions for victims of rape and incest despite impassioned pleas from their Democratic colleagues.
"To the bill’s many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God," Ivey said in a statement.
Ivey added that the bill, which won't take effect for six months, "closely resembled an abortion ban that has been a part of Alabama law for well over 100 years."
As a result of the new law, doctors in the state could face up to 99 years in prison for performing an abortion unless a woman's health is at "serious" risk.
The legislation has garnered intense outrage from Democratic lawmakers, civil rights groups, and people across the country, even concerning some anti-abortion Republican lawmakers who grappled with how restrictive the measure was.
The ACLU has repeatedly said that it will sue the state if the bill became a law, reminding women that "the bill will not take effect anytime in the near future and abortion will remain a safe, legal medical procedure at all clinics in Alabama."

As Ivey confirmed, the bill was designed to challenge the landmark 1973 decision Roe v. Wade, which established a woman's constitutional right to end a pregnancy, by attempting to legally define a fetus as a person with rights. Abortion rights advocates, including Planned Parenthood Southeast, have already vowed to challenge the law in court.
"Many Americans, myself included, disagreed when Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973," she said. "The sponsors of this bill believe that it is time, once again, for the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit this important matter, and they believe this act may bring about the best opportunity for this to occur."

AOC calls Alabama's abortion ban 'a brutal form of oppression'
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who has emerged as a leader among progressive Democrats, denounced Alabama’s abortion ban after it was signed into law on Wednesday night.
She was joined by most of the party’s presidential candidates.
“Abortion bans aren’t just about controlling women’s bodies,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “They’re about controlling women’s sexuality. Owning women. From limiting birth control to banning comprehensive sex ed, U.S. religious fundamentalists are working hard to outlaw sex that falls outside their theology.
“Ultimately, this is about women’s power,” the freshman congresswoman continued. “When women are in control of their sexuality, it threatens a core element underpinning right-wing ideology: patriarchy. It’s a brutal form of oppression to seize control of the 1 essential thing a person should command: their own body.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s tweets came shortly after Alabama’s Republican Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law the most restrictive reproductive legislation since 1973, when the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.
Ivey said the bill, the Alabama Human Life Protection Act, is a “powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious & that every life is a sacred gift from God.”
The passage of the bill led Jenna Lowenstein, Sen. Cory Booker’s deputy presidential campaign manager, to contribute to the campaign of his rival Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Her intent was to help the New York senator qualify for the first Democratic debate “to ensure @SenGillibrand’s important perspective” is reflected on the stage. Gillibrand has made reproductive rights a signature issue in her campaign.
Alabama is one of at least seven states to pass stricter abortion laws this year. In April, Ohio passed a bill that outlaws abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected. Kentucky, Mississippi and Georgia have similar laws.
Hours after Alabama’s legislation — which would become enforceable in November — was signed, Missouri’s Republican-led Senate passed a wide-ranging bill to ban abortions at eight weeks of pregnancy.
[Alabama bill marks the start of all-out war on abortion]
The laws have been met with legal challenges and protests. In Georgia, several television and film companies announced last week that they will no longer work in the state after Republican Gov. Brian Kemp signed a bill that would criminalize abortions after six weeks of gestation — before many women even know they are pregnant.
Abortion rights opponents in those states hope President Trump’s appointment of more conservative justices will lead to a successful challenge of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade ruling.
“What we’re seeing now is much more of a full-frontal attack,” Elizabeth Nash, a senior state issues manager at the Guttmacher Institute, told Yahoo News. “We are seeing a real shift away from the incremental strategy that dominated abortion laws for decades, and now we’re seeing the goal of banning abortion outright.”
“They are playing political games with women’s lives,” added Staci Fox, president of Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates. “They know and say publicly that these laws are unconstitutional and they don’t care.”

What is very interesting, is how much you care about what happens in America. It seems you care more about that than any other country. And labeling American lawmakers as Taliban, is nothing but slander. For those not victims, there are plenty of highly effective birth control options, which many people ignore because they don't want to take the time, or do not care.Abortion is not, and should not be, a form of birth control. There are morning after pills for that. These can also be taken directly after a rape. They are also nearly 100% effective if taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex.
https://www.icliniq.com/articles/womens ... after-pill
Personally I believe if someone has been the victim of incest and cannot get to take these pills within the time limit they should be able to have an early abortion. Also in the less than 1% of people who ULIPRISTAL ACETATE does not work for, yes they should have an early abortion option offered.
Pretty soon Vladimir will be telling us he believes in the bills of some states that are now offering abortions up to, and including, after a live birth. Yes/No?

Pennsylvania Rep. Tim Murphy has resigned after a report surfaced earlier this week that he had asked an extramarital lover to end her pregnancy.
Murphy, a Republican who co-sponsored a 20-week abortion ban that passed in the House Tuesday, allegedly asked his lover to terminate her pregnancy, according to text message records acquired by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Shannon Edwards, 32, whom Murphy recently admitted to having an affair with, messaged the 65-year-old congressman after an anti-abortion statement was posted on his office’s Facebook account in January.

"And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options," allegedly wrote Edwards in a text exchange that was a part of a number of documents obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A response from Murphy's phone number allegedly read, "I get what you say about my March for life messages. I've never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don't write any more. I will."
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the exchange was over "an unfounded pregnancy scare."
Murphy’s office and Edwards had no comment when reached by ABC News.

Planned Parenthood seeks halt to Arkansas abortion pill law
On Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., announced that Murphy was resigning from Congress.
“This afternoon I received a letter of resignation from Congressman Tim Murphy, effective October 21," Ryan said in a statement. "It was Dr. Murphy's decision to move on to the next chapter of his life, and I support it. We thank him for his many years of tireless work on mental health issues here in Congress and his service to the country as a naval reserve officer.”
Murphy had previously announced his plans to retire at the end of his term in 2018.
"After discussions with my family and staff, I have come to the decision that I will not seek reelection to Congress at the end of my current term," Murphy said in a statement Wednesday evening. "In the coming weeks I will take personal time to seek help as my family and I continue to work through our personal difficulties and seek healing. I ask you to respect our privacy during this time."
But Murphy's retirement announcement didn't go far enough for some members. The embattled congressman was under immense pressure from GOP leaders to resign Wednesday, according to a source close to Murphy -- and that pressure only increased after he announced plans to retire after finishing out his term.
Murphy has a record of supporting legislation to cut federal funding for abortion and Planned Parenthood, and co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act on Jan. 24, one day before the text exchange.

And exactly how many posts have you made concerning human rights issues in communist/socialist countries. How many democrats have you posted about who have records worse than Murphy.
Do you believe abortion should be a form of birth control? How late do you approve of abortions?
America is going over a process to decide when life begins and when it is a form of murder to kill it. Even if you have no religion, these are issues that should trouble anyone. If you believe, like some religions, in reincarnation, what happens to that reincarnated soul when the fetus is killed? Can it go on, or does it suffer an eternity in limbo?
To my mind, life is precious, no matter how cheaply it is viewed by some. Should a mother who was too lazy to do birth control, or just didn't care, be allowed to murder an unborn child, or one right after it is born? I think not.

It's draconian but de-funding of Planned Parenthood is a good thing and I would definitely support the banning of third-trimester abortions.
I wonder if the democrats would be so critical if their pets, the Islamic religious fundamentalists had been behind the Act...

At least the Taliban outlawed Bacha Bazi. The practice returned shortly after the Americans arrived and many American soldiers know it is going on but are forced to tolerate it. In America, there is an 11 year old child who goes by the name "Desmond Is Amazing." He recently danced and received money like a stripper in a gay club but the authorities, when asked to look into it, said that there is no proof of exploitation. S
In many ways, it is an insult to the Taliban to compare them to the evil empire. That is saying a lot because the Taliban has indiscriminately killed people.
