I did a quick search this morning and immediately came across the same ONS report. Meant to reply in a similar way but got a bit distracted with work.
Additionally, it would be interesting to compare the the total value of UK listed shares in 1979 with 2019. Ownership percentages don't tell the whole story.
I would check myself by I need a beer and can't be bothered. Might do it tomorrow.

You have just underlined the very point I was making. Just consider again:Miguelito wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 3:45 pmWell that's not quite an accurate statement. Instead of "held by individuals" it should read as "held by British individuals as the main share holder". Non Brits held 53.9% of the value of the UK stock market at the end of 2016 - those could be individuals as well.springrain wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 8:05 pmBefore Thatcher came to power, almost 40% of the shares in British companies were held by individuals. By 1981, it was less than 30%. By the time she died in 2013, it had slumped to under 12%.
However, the majority of shares in terms of value are held in multiple-ownership pooled accounts, where the beneficial owner is not held centrally. These accounted for a large portion of the total holdings by value (62.5%) at the end of 2016. (source) So the 9% of shares owned by "Unit Trusts" also comprise of individuals, as do the shares owned by pensions, etc. Hell, even the church owns some shares.
So what was your point by quoting that number?
I quote Migs:
However, the majority of shares in terms of value are held in multiple-ownership pooled accounts, where the beneficial owner is not held centrally. These accounted for a large portion of the total holdings by value (62.5%) at the end of 2016.
Consider the paradox here.
There are two issues to consider: if an account is 'pooled', it is not accountable, simply because the 'true' ownership cannot be traced - it is 'pooled'. Ergo, it is 'unaccountable'. The more dispersed the ownership, the harder it is to pinpoint. Consider the trick played by HE in the last election - a 20-party election is well ... pooled. See the trick?
Who are the main shareholders?
There is a paradox in the phrase: 'the main shareholder'; It is not the people who think they have made a quick buck out of privatisation - it is, and this is fundamental, those who have SUBMITTED THEIR RIGHTS TO THE TRUST FUNDS AND OTHER TRICKSTERS. IT IS A FRAUD. Can you prove otherwise?
Can we trace exactly whom these beings are? You can try, but I'm afraid they are hidden away in the vaults.
Thus, there are those who think they are 'shareholders' with full voting rights; there are also those who make a quick buck; then there are those who secure (what they 'think' to be true ownership of a company, a country, a dictatorship...)

I hope they built a kill switch into the 200 or so F-15s, Typhoons and Tornadoes we sold those guys. And more to the point, the thousands of airliners Airbus and Boeing have sold them.

And you whinge constantly about human rights abuses in Cambodia.
The irony.
Have the Saudis bombed any more school buses yet? Murdered any more people in embassies? Whipped women in public for being sexually abused by a stranger?
You've misread his post. He is not claiming that he is a Saudi himself. He is quoting a post from someone on reddit which, presumably, starts with the phrase 'I'm a Saudi'.
