Let's hope the weather doesn't intervene too much, although I think it's bound to have a say at some stage today.
I've looked at the forecasts for both Cardiff & Taunton: cloudy, windy starts, but brightening up later; looks like win-the-toss-and-bowl-first conditions in both games. Having said that, cloud will help the bowlers, but windy conditions will hinder them. Cardiff (England v Bangla) looks the windier of the two venues.
Let's just hope for some great cricket and exciting games!

Well, both England & NZ came through unscathed. I watched most of the England game on a live stream and there were a couple of LOL moments - one is when JJ Roy crashed into the umpire as he was jogging back for his century; both were watching the fielder. It's at about 0.45 seconds here:
Big one later on today - India v Australia at the Oval.

I felt a bit sorry for both of them. The umpire looked like he was hurt. Roy looked quality. I hope we don't end up missing Hales over a bit of gear.springrain wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:56 amWell, both England & NZ came through unscathed. It's interesting 'cause they were talking about Roy possibly opening the batting in the Ashes. Trouble is, Roy, Hales and Vince are all fantastic one-day batsmen, but none of them really have the defensive technique for an opening Ashes spot. Personally, I'd probably have gone for Roy if he'd been opening with Cookie, but it looks like we'll have both openers being relatively inexperienced gambles. Rory Burns will probably be the other opener, but it might one of Burns, Jennings & Denly; doesn't really inspire confidence! You could also open with Bairstow and give the gloves to Buttler, batting at #7 or 8.
So, yeah, I'd give Roy an opening spot in the Ashes if he continues to do well in the World Cup. It looks like Hales has blotted his copybook and might not be considered again for a long time.

Hales has had a few chances and continues to fuck up. He would of been perfect as a replacement should we get any injuries (Butler). Vince isn't half the player Hales is.springrain wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 12:04 pmIt's interesting 'cause they were talking about Roy possibly opening the batting in the Ashes. It looks highly likely that we will be starting the first ashes test with Burns and Roy. Roy should just attack and play his natural game, what's the worst that can happen?

Yep, I agree! That's why Warner is one of the best openers in the world, imho; he has the selective technique to go along with his aggression, ie. knowing which ball to go after, but if the 'bad' ball is there, he will hit it. If he just shows a little more nous in his shot selection, Roy could scale those heights. There's a great article about 'technique' here: http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/co ... 49859.htmlangsta wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 3:06 pmHales has had a few chances and continues to fuck up. Anyway, India win the toss and will bat.

JJ Roy is an exciting batsman to watch.
India batting very cautiously at 3 an over, they should loosen up soon enough.

Dhawan has got his 100.
Kohli looking good for big runs.
I can't call this - can anyone?

I think England will, but I'm certainly not putting money on it!

And, I'm just a bit ...biased ... just a bit.
But, I really think this is England's time.
We regard it as a National disgrace that we have never lifted the World Cup.
So, perhaps, we (England) will lift the trophy.
Of, course, it is a 'perhaps', so England might look pretty silly.
Who knows? And that is why we (cricket fans) LOVE our 'silly' game.

Indian batsmen are poetry in motion and glad I decided to watch the first half of the game when they won the toss and elected to bat.
A win by only 26 runs so a lot closer than I thought it would be. Some games are won on the toss and this would perhaps be one of those.
SA v WI today. My money would be on the Windies but SA in need of a win.
