Derelict cottages in Ireland
Bongs,
I'm in Ireland right now. Thank fock for that you cont
F*ck, you should see the place. There's like no rubbish lying around at all and a severe lack of chaos. You never see any people on the streets.
Where's the fucking chaos? You know, the chaos we always moan about?
I went for a crap when i landed in Dublin airport and there was no bum gun. Had to wipe my ass with tissue paper ffs.
Barbarians.
Here, you can like , go for a relaxing drive, and not have to worry about getting run over when out walking (apart from maybe on a Saturday and Sunday when the locals blow steam off for 2 days)
Surprised how cheap it is here. Actually bought a huge pineapple for only €1.50 the other day. I bet the fucker came all the way from Thailand or Cambodia. Imagine the mark up on that?
Anyways, i'm out in the sticks here abit and i'm seing loads of these derelict cottages everywhere and it's bugging me why nothing gets done with them.
I find them fascinating. I've walked around a few and looked inside and interesting to see the ancient old TV and furnititure strewn everywhere.
I'm wondering whether it's an Irish attatchment with land thing? Or just little demand? It's a mystery to me. Only been here 10 days though.
How would you go about enquiring about who the owners are and whether they want to sell?
Any ideas?

Could imagine shit loads of UK retirees wanting to move here to escape the city life.
It's definitely a relaxing lifestyle here.

I know exactly the kind of places you mean. They look very rustic and charming but just for starters they don't have any damp courses, they are usually just stone walls with a rendering. Plumbing you can forget too. So they are cold and damp as hell, and because many are old and "historic" there are restrictions on how they can be refurbished. So that's why so many get abandoned and the land owners just stick up a new bungalow nearby. The whole west coast is littered with the remains of farms and villages that were abandoned 150 years ago.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:19 am

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Don't they all want to move to southern Spain or Portugal where the weather is nicer and the food and drinks are good and cheap?spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:35 amCould imagine shit loads of UK retirees wanting to move here to escape the city life.
There are whole villages in Italy where you can buy up a house for Euro if you commit to remodel it some. I think that sounds interesting.

It might be difficult post-Brexit for them to move to those countries, while they have a right of free movement in Ireland.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 11:45 amDon't they all want to move to southern Spain or Portugal where the weather is nicer and the food and drinks are good and cheap?spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:35 amCould imagine shit loads of UK retirees wanting to move here to escape the city life.

And plenty of people (including Aussies and Americans) are retiring to Portugal, I think that will remain an easy place to settle.

Yes, and Irish people will still have freedom of movement in the UK. The Common Travel Area is an agreement that dates from 1923.

It's still quite easy (at the moment) to get a 3 month C visa for Ireland for spouses of EU citizens. Just show evidence of your history together and funds etc. Took about 20 minutes to fill in the online visa form.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:18 pmWill they have that same right post-Brexit?Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:10 pmIt might be difficult post-Brexit for them to move to those countries, while they have a right of free movement in Ireland.Miguelito wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 11:45 amDon't they all want to move to southern Spain or Portugal where the weather is nicer and the food and drinks are good and cheap?spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 12:35 amCould imagine shit loads of UK retirees wanting to move here to escape the city life.

Then when they arrive they can use EU treaty rights and apply for the residence card.
I've done abit of a Teresa May reversal on the EU. A wise man once said on here that when the facts change, their opinion changes. Or is it the opinion that changes when the facts change? Oh, i dunno.
It's funny though as Ireland may be the easiest most open place in Europe to get into (?)but i get the impression they dont give a fuck about foreign investment if it will hurt Ireland. Maybe they are also the most protective? Unlike the UK.
I'm currently staying in a cottage that must be made of old stone as the walls are nearly 2 feet thick with an inner plasterboard layer for insulation.
They use an oil boiler for heating and peat material in wood stoves during the winter. I think most buildings where i am are made of stone.
Not sure how easy it would be to renovate one of these derelicts, but if it's possible to do then it doesn't make any sense going through the headache of building a house as there are so many of these seemingly abandoned buildings dotted around.
Fuck me it's damp here though.

Australia. China. Parts of US. Anywhere house prices have gotten too many multiples above average salaries and purchases are financed with far too much debt by investors/flippers. Another 2008 style crash is a-coming. Central banks are going through extreme lengths to keep interest rates low to keep the sinking ship afloat and that is going to cause inflation the likes of which haven't been seen in most of the West. The FIAT bubble will be the end of us. Wise governments are stocking up on as much gold as they can get their hands on in preparation. Bitcoin will soar.assumption wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 6:32 ampray tell where do you see property prices going one way down?
Deutsche Bank is in it's death rattles. Will it implode or explode? Weimar Republic 2.0?Will individual bank accounts be confiscated to cover losses, Cyprus style? Laws were passed after 2008 to make that perfectly legal.
