Violet, when you cut out the rhetoric, it's all quiet simple, it's what the original referendum was all about. Chapter and verse have been printed here showing that dumbo Cameron offered the UK a referendum based on his deal with the EU or OUT (no hard or soft boiled Brexit, just out). Simple as that.
Gina Miller (hedge fund person with a very vested interest in staying in the EU) screwed things further by going to the courts to insist that Parliament have the final say and not the Government. Had she kept her big mouth shut, we would have been out for about a year now and getting on with life. However as we all know, given more than 2 choices MPs will never agree as a majority on anything except a pay rise and increased pension benefits for themselves.
As article 50 (withdrawal) had been submitted, Parliament had 2 years in which to pass the Withdrawal Agreement. The House of Commons, the House of Lords and the EU all AGREED that a no deal would be the default position. They all could have had remain as the default but all parties agreed on a no deal.
Since then, Remain activist groups have lobbied and protested to the point where everyone is sick to death of the whole affair and could not care less what happens as long as it is all over quickly.
No deal was always the default and the vote in Parliament to ensure that no deal was not acceptable was only one of many votes that were non binding and were an indicative snapshot of how Parliament felt at the time. They were not legal or binding.
