The guy who does the "Extreme Khmer" videos/language course has a vid about Khmer Surin, I believe he does the interviews in Bangkok, in a Khmer restaurant.

Google is your friend! I'd sift through the vids for you, but can't seem to find them on my machine.

Good Luck!

His videos are pretty good. Here's the Khmer Surin one:

That guy speaks better Khmer than most Khmers.

Khmer Surin is a nice restaurant, but the service leads a lot to be desired.

The two or three times I've been there my bill has been padded to the tune of about 50% extra. Lucky I was with the Mrs, she checks the bills, I couldn't be bothered.

Most Khmers I know would disagree with that. To me, he sounds like a barang speaking Khmer, which tends to be slower and easier (for fellow barangs) to understand.

The video isn't about Khmer Surin restaurant in PP. It's about the Khmer dialect, Khmer Surin (aka Northern Khmer).

Couldn't agree more. He speaks good Khmer for a barang. But hardly as good as a Khmer. Not even close.

I like it where hes on Sukhumvit soi 7/1(Home of the infamous Eden club) in BKK at the PP bar and says suggestively, "Plou ti nih, mien barang, joal jet, dar layng, j'raan!" Hilarious!

Where we are there are a lot of 'village Khmers', even my wife can't understand them, they have a type of hillbillie accent. Most of the country outside of PP is like this.

However, my aim in the future is to have as much wisdom as you FC. We can all learn from your obvious vast experience and knowledge of the country.

Please, tell us more o' wise one.

What you called 'hillbilly' accent is a dialect that is unique to individual province. A native Khmer speaker would pick it up in a few days if not less. You wife must be a special case because I have no problem conversing with people from difference provinces apart of the odd slang and idioms, and had only spent 6 months in my entire life there. It's ironic that you think PP accent is the ultimate and calling other type of khmer accents hillbilly when in fact it's one of the less authentic Khmer dialects.

Sure, and Zsa Zsa Gabor speaks better English than the Queen, a Japanese guy who lived in England for 2 years told me so.

Jezus Christ,it started about the question if somebody knew a khmer restaurant in BKK.And now all the fucking falang are arguing if the barang guy speaks khmer language ok or not ok.
I happen to have met this guy in Bangkok and his name is Frank Smith and he is a decent fellow who spoke wiyh my cambodian girlfriend and she really was impressed by his language skills.
I was there to meet him because i was buying his khmer language textbook. He is a among other things a khmer language teacher at SEASSI at the university of Wisconsin-Madison and he might know a nice khmer restaurant in Bangkok

going to Bkk and wanting khmer food??? jesus.
Good food is everywhere there.
A better question would be CAN you find good thai cooking in Cambodia? The month I spent there was totally uninspiring. Seems they tossed in a good part of the yard in every meal and god was it bland. Then again, Moms might be a shit cook. Or used to khmer rouge cooking...take some bugs, add tree bark, find random leaves...
