There are very few white female expat teachers who stick around at the language schools for Khmer teenagers and young adults, although having said that I can think at least three or four who are really skilled teachers and have been around for a long time because they are committed expats with local partners and deeply entrenched here.giblet wrote:That's a different friend! But these two friends would most certainly start drinking at Garage if they got a job in Phnom Penh. They are both under 30 and good-looking (like all of my friends) so they would probably land a pretty good job here.SunSan wrote:Will your friend be able to continue drinking at Garage if she becomes an English teacher?
However, there are plenty of gigs doing young learner stuff/ kindergarten etc that white blokes either wouldn't want to do or - more likely - employees wouldn't want them doing, that are idea for youngish white women. (Would you want a middle aged white expat, panting and red-faced at 8am, breathing his beer fumes over your 5 year old son or daughter? I most certainly wouldn't.)
Traditionally, Flipper women used to get hired aplenty in this field, but these days many kindergartens like to have rosy-cheeked white women for the middle class Khmer parents to look at as their infants get dropped off every day.
At most of these places the remuneration is pretty similar to the language schools....$10-12ph, but they aren't on the white guy radar so they don't mentioned on 440.
