yeah its true, ive seen teachers getting told they might have their chair taken away from them because they sat down for more than 1 minute, even had bosses staring, literally staring at us out the window on a smoke breaks tapping their watches, id rather slap on some lipstick on and a dress and try and earn cash at walk about than ever work there again, they are all cunts.hanky wrote:Captain Bonez wrote:Someone told me they have cameras in the classrooms, so they can berate teachers who don't stand up the right way or whatever. That should vastly improve the level of learning there.

Bonez, I worked at one Beltei franchise, and let me tell you, no, I repeat NO school I have worked at was stricter with students who got out of hand. The director and the Heads of English and Khmer departments regularly had kids in front of them crying after they had been bawled out.
I have a photo somewhere of them forcing a kid to have his hair cut in the school during class time because he didn't get it done at home.Very few other schools here would do this for fear of losing a student, and the students consequently run the school.
As one poster has already mentioned, different directors run different campuses in a different way, but almost all of the staff were always very helpful. I agree about buying the books though, but every school has it's little crazy thing that no logic can explain.
They paid a good rate, on time every time, and never ripped me off, more than can be said for some others.
One big plus, the aircon was amazing! Set at 16C and often had kids complaining it was too cold.
I worked with some Nigerian guys, the one guy, Harry is an excellent teacher who was one of the only foreign teachers giving homework when not told to do so, on his own initiative, so to speak. They are not all nasty people.
What campus were you at? Obviously a badly run one.

bonez, I meant the discipline thing.
Agree about the haircuts.
Prison boarding school I attended made sure we had super-short haircuts just before we went on exeat to see our girlfriends, just to make sure everybody looked uncool - and this was in the 70s, when everyone had long hair except the chicks.
Didn't cut my hair for 2 years after leaving school.

as well as avoiding Beltei like the plague i would also advise DO NOT WORK FOR E.L.T, it's fine if you like getting paid late, teaching complete mind numbing books to a bunch of inept, nouvo riche dicks, working with a complete bunch of fuck wits (thats the khmers and Foreign staff) and being employed by a family who i wouldnt piss on if they were on fire, they wont even buy paper for christ sake, i had to literally go round the corner and buy my own blank paper to have things i wanted photocopied, and even then it seemed like a great deal of hassle for them to do it for me.
Fuck with me and you'll get AIDS

You do realise that by posting this you are including yourself as a fuck wit, right?

I met a guy from Kent who worked for E.L.T. and who claimed, no boasted to have spent much of his youth (16-19) in a young offenders centre. Had some nice borstal tattoos. Lovely guy, seemed like a really great teacher.
if i worked there, yeah....vladimir wrote:'You do realise that by posting this you are including yourself as a fuck wit, right

I was working for a university here, and during the break, this American teacher came in, and started offering hash to everybody. I had just started there, this guy had no clue who I was, but he even offered me some. There must have been seven of us in the room, and he offered everyone and then waltzed off to start his class.
It's not just ELT.
If you have kids at a private school, you should ask them if they check for criminal records. And since you are paying, ask them if they check academic transcripts. No point in paying for an educator and getting a druggie with no degree.

Sorry, I thought you worked there, but you meant you left because of the fwits.

Hanky, now it all comes out!
It was (and still is) probably the ' best school in the country' , but the problem is that those kind of ratings are usually done by parents, not students.
3 months at a time 400 plus male students all between the ages of 13-19. Not a girl in sight. Compulsory haircuts every two weeks.Military discipline, and some sadistic bastard housemasters.Hence the term prison school. Only things to do, study, play sport, fight or catch snakes. I studied, played some sport, and caught a lot of snakes.

I think he was in Cambodia and working with an equally qualified and articulate friend from another Kent market town.
