Anything going on during Water Festival?
I've read that they are still preparing for the people from the provinces to head in PP. I know the boat racing has been cancelled, but are there any other activities or events going on during the public holiday?

Probably because most of it is fucking garbage sung through a vocoder with 50 dancers behind the singer doing totally lame moves, and no self-respecting English speakers really give a toss for it.giblet wrote:Do you know where I can find a list of the concerts? I haven't seen anything in the English-language press.

My mate was in McDonalds at Asoke in Bangkok when it kicked off with the Isaan lot last year. Two of them in the toilets trying to use the tap to wash their hands after having a piss. They tried turning it, no luck. Then one of them tried turning it while balancing on the sink for a firmer grip, no luck. In the end the two of 'em were at it and they ended up almost pulling the tap out of the sink, but still hadn't washed their hands.Playboy wrote:You missed out:hanky wrote:There shall no doubt be the yearly spectacle involving throngs of peasants aimlessly striding around the big smoke.

My mate walks over, puts his hand under and waits for the water to come out, he then walks over to the electric drier and does the same. He turned round and the two fellas were like they'd seen a ghost, they clearly couldn't believe what they'd just seen, looking at him and this strange appliance in the corner with total fear. In the end, they hurried out without washing.

This year will be the Festival of the beggars. I remember when the wet season finished 2 months early in 2004. The beggars hit the festival in a big way and continued to arrive by the truckload for several months after.
With the current damage to this year's rice harvest, expect a lot of action outside of the Palace, the National Assembly and HE's supposed residence. I'm sure the CPP boys have the rice bags ready. Might be an idea to start practicing the brush off, as the potential local target market may be well down.
