The Post Mortem Peregrinations of an English Tourist
Sunday 20th November, 2011, 18:19H
Kampong Som Province – An Englishman has died by accidental drowning in a swimming pool in a club catering to foreign tourists called the (transliterated it sounds like) U2 Pier, located in Group 15, Village 4, Sanghut #4, in Sihanoukville. This happened at 1:30 just past midnight of the 19th of November 2011, after the victim had consumed alcohol and (it is suspected) used drugs.
Police officials have identified the deceased Englishman as “ANDREW DILLON RYAN” age 34, a tourist who recently entered Cambodia on the 13th of November. According to the statement of a motodop stationed in front of the club, the deceased had entered the U2 Pier restaurant and club at about 10 in the evening of the described night and had consumed about 9 glasses of mixed alcoholic beverages while smoking cigarettes. At about 1:00 just past midnight, a sudden alarm was raised that a tourist had just drowned, although efforts were made to resuscitate him. The same source continued to state that some were of the opinion that the Englishman’s drowning death was not only due to alcoholic excess, but was in fact brought about when he attempted a midnight swim while heavily stupefied with drugs.
But a waiter at the club has stated off the record that at the time of the victim’s drowning the victim had been seated at the edge of the pool and had dropped his glasses. He had then bent down in an effort to pick up his glasses, lost his balance, and fell into the pool where he lost consciousness. He was then placed in a tuk-tuk to be transported to a medical facility. But while proceeding on its way, the tuk-tuk was intercepted by an ambulance from the Reasmey Clinic of Kampong Som. The ambulance continued the journey to the hospital with the victim transferred inside. Seeing that the victim was beyond any medical aid they could offer, however, it was proposed that the victim be shunted to the Chomkar Chek (Banana Grove) Referral Hospital instead. But once there, the victim was refused admission on account of him being already dead. He was then transported back to the original scene of his death.
According to rumour, the ambulance of the Kampong Som Reasmey Clinic has been detained by police. Mr Keo Chundara, the managing director of the Kampong Som Reasmy Clinic, recounted that a clinic ambulance was despatched to transport the victim to their facility as soon as they received word of the drowning at the club. Before the ambulance was able to reach the club, however, friends of the victim intercepted it and had the ambulance transport the victim the Chomkar Chek Hospital. Once there, the hospital refused admission of the victim on account of him being already deceased. They requested that the victim be returned to the original scene of his death pending a proper police investigation. Once brought back there, however, the owner of the club refused to allow the corpse to be taken out of the ambulance and onto his premises, even going so far as to offer physically violence to the driver of the ambulance in order to enforce his viewpoint. To maintain order, officials kept the corpse in the ambulance until forensic experts arrived.
We remind the reader that this is now the second incident of its kind to occur at the U2 Pier Club and its swimming pool. But it seems that authorities are taking no measures at all to prevent this sort of thing from recurring on account of the uncooperative nature of the owner who has rudely rebuffed all such efforts.
According to the Chief Provincial Medical Examiner, Dr Se Sorith, the death so far appears to be a drowning. As things now stand, the corpse has been removed to Wat Krom, Kampong Som, and the English Embassy been informed.

Another great cambodian story, except for the victim of course.
Lucky owner of the hotel wherever it is,obviously he didnt want the body back.
I wonder how much the owner of the hotel where the aussie sailor died had to pay the police.

For a brief moment there, I thought Joe Lazarus had moved to Snookies. Seriously, I thought it was a joke. RIP

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
being the driver of an ambulance is not an easy job in cambodia. it nowhere is but in cambodia it´s really difficult

I think the guys in the ambulance have got the sack for seeing the body of a foreigner, seeing money and not checking if he was still alive.Feticheur wrote:being the driver of an ambulance is not an easy job in cambodia

The paper seems to think it is very uncooperative of the owner, to not accept any dead clientele. I guess it's wrong in a country where dead or otherwise nonexistent people make up the ranks of government workers.rob77 wrote:I can't imagine any bar owner would happily accept back a dead customer, backpackers are bad enough when they are alive. I mean if they guy wasn't proper dead when he left you'd be fucking mad to take his corpse back.
I was always wandering what brainfart was responsible for those horrible films.rob77 wrote:What the fuck is a bar owner going to do with it? Make Weekend at Bernie's part 3?
The topic or post you are looking for does not exist.
That movie is way overdue... He always reminded me of Leisure Suit Larry for some reason...rob77 wrote:...Make Weekend at Bernie's part 3?
It reminds me of the film "a Good Man in Africa". If the guy was dead they should have left the body where it was and let the corroner/police take over it is easier on the pcoket, it would be easier on the hotel owner, I speak from experience.

The bar owner and ambulance staff probably didn't want to be associated with any false death rumours on 440.
But seriously, why didn't the clinics take his body? Wtf are his friends going to do with a corpes? Undoubtably they were probably off their rocker too.

Do any of the resort owners on this board offer their staff any kind of first aid or CPR training? It would probably cost far less than the fees associated with getting rid of a dead barang from your premises.
Geez Porky- do you really need to post such yucky stories on a Monday morning?
