You have similar problems in India.
In Mumbai the Nigerians were in the drug trade. But as far as I could tell they were not in serious competition with the local Mumbai underworld.
In Goa they had a presence but were not as big as the Russian Mafia.

Question: Why is there a transcontinental Nigerian crime network? As opposed to say one from the Ivory Coast or Kenyan? I just do not know enough about Africa to have a clue?

Well, for a start it's by far the most populous country in Africa. Many of the criminal cases involving Africans here have also involved people from countries other than Nigeria, most seem to be west African though.connecticuter wrote:Question: Why is there a transcontinental Nigerian crime network? Just a few years back there was an african on every corner in downtown vientiane and a small reggae style bar on the river where they would congregate , The Lao woke up to this pretty quick as it was probably cutting into there own Dealings, just before the SEA games they were all ceremoniously rounded up and told to fuck of along with most of the indigenous beggers and skanky hoes , a notice at immigration informs you now which countries are welcome and which are not not to many african nations are on the welcome list , you dont see them now , which to my way of thinking is a bloody good thing for Laos

True, remember when I used to do my visa run for Thailand via Laos at the border crossing (the friendship bridge, jeez where do they dream up these corny names) there was a list of countries not that welcome or diplomatically speaking where you could not get a visa without due prior application and probably a shit load of red tape....

Two foreigners, one from Sierra Leone and one from Nigeria, and a pair of Cambodian women were sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday to face drug-trafficking charges, according a police official.
Kirt Chantharith, police spokesman for that General Commissariat of the National Police, said that the charged were Sesay Frank Joe, 36, of Sierra Leone; Chosen Nna Chofor, 32, of Nigeria; 33-year-old Heng Phalla, also known as Srey Mao; and Seng Chenda, 27.
Pov Sam Eng, an officer at the Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Drug Police Department, said the four were arrested on Tuesday during a raid on street 63 in Boeng Keng Kang I Commune.
