Medical

From the FCO's site:
Public health facilities in Cambodia are very poor. Private clinics and hospitals in Phnom Penh are often better equipped but are of variable quality and can be expensive. The standards maintained by Cambodian emergency services are poor in comparison to the UK and evacuation is recommended for medical emergencies. Hospitals are not recommended for anything but immediate stabilisation prior to an air medical evacuation or for minor medical concerns.

For anything more than a band-aid, get the hell out of here.

Just used "The Physio", a young Danish chap who has just started up his business:. Seemed knowledgeable, properly manipulated my back into place, recommended a series of exercises which I will try enthusiastically initially, then start getting weary of, then increasingly forget about, then stop. Followed by throwing my back out again and repeating the cycle.

South side of Street 310 between 63 and Monivong.

Sok Sen International Hospital has a Russian, who seems to have a good reputation. I believe it costs $30 for the first consultation and $15 for a follow up. Prices were on their website last time I looked.

If your neck/back hurts, there apparently aren't any osteopaths/chiropractors here in PP, but there is a good physio! He's very lovely and knowledgable, and after my two visits with him, my neck has gone back to normal!

His name is Jeppe Brok-Kristensen (he's Danish- surprise!)
He's based between Monivong and 63, on 310 on the south side of the street at number 213.
His number is 088 945 6705.
He charges $30 for 45 minutes, but he charged me less for my shorter visits.

I have to agree after my first and only experience with Dr. Gavin Scott this month. An STD check was very professional, thorough, informative, far more so than any such check back home in Canada. A vsiting Bangkok friend also went for a checkup after an eye injury. His cornea was judged to be abraided, as proven later by a BKK specialist. The doc was judged to have done all the right things to stabilize the injury. My friend was extremely satisfied, as was I.

Agree. Dr Scott is the man! Won't rip you off with unecessary tests. Thorough questioning and diagnosis. Very experienced. I won't hesitate to go back to him if I get any more problems.

Perusing hospital services from the links above and was intrigued by Sen Sok. During a tour of the web site, thought I'd check out the Gallery. Have a look at the ambulance pictures, the interiors showing a little recent usage. Look on the sliding cupboard doors. Accident lately? Gives one pause about the enire operation, so to speak.

I've been unlucky enough to stay in 2 different hospitals in Cambodia in the 2 and a half years I've been here.

The first one was at Calmette with typhoid. I would never stay again. It was terrible.

The second was Royal Rattanak Hospital in Toul Kork. I had appendicitis. It was very good, but a lot more expensive! I paid nearly $1000 for a 4 day stay and was impressed.
