Borei Keila Residents Shafted by Phan Imex Again

Postby smurfystew » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:24 pm

Phnom Penh – The infamous Borei Keila development firm, Phan Imex has begun work on the 9th of 10 planned resettlement buildings for evicted residents at Ponhea Leu relocation site in Kandal province. Unfortunately for the nearly 400 families left in limbo by their forced eviction, the new building apparently isn’t for them.

A Phan Imex spokesperson told the Phnom Penh Post that the new building “will not be given” to evicted Borei Keila residents.

The Post attempted on numerous occasions to reach Phan Imex owner, Suy Sophan.

According to the Post, “her spokespeople provided various reasons why she was not answering her phone, including that she was cooking, had left her phone in her driver’s car or had left her phone on charge while she did something else. When reached, she declined to comment.

Just so those of you who have not been to the lakeside can understand how much land was leased for 99 years

You need to enlarge it, it's a panoramic shot, still working on getting this right, sorry, (tips, anyone for making it appear larger?) but I hope you can see just how large this piece of land is stretching all the way from St 72 (which is the northern boundary) right down to the airport road in the south. For this much land so close to the CBD to be turned into a foreign colony, what can one say? Lots of guys got villas, SUVs and i-pads out of this one.

I didn't see the Jolly Roger flying, but it should be there.

I am familiar with that site now.
It is behind the paramount angkor bus station.
Boden era apartment blocks being demolished.
It seems that the story in the paper today is probably the truth.
All tenants were promised a new apartment but many apartments were sold to outsiders by corrupt officials and phanimex staff-for a few thousand dollars each.
Therefore many families missed out.
I calculated the value of the land that they have obtained -$50 million!
Less the eight mil to build eight apartment blocks and whatever they paid under the table.
Nice work if you can get it!

Here's a bit about the history of the place from a year or so back, written before the recent episode where the residents got screwed. A few years ago a load of HIV residents from there got evicted and relocated to some tin-huts in the middle of nowhere :
