Angsta, if you are referring to the above, Im not a native speaker and was not talking about the owner but the BUSINESS itself dead and buried.mannacambodia wrote:Talked to some people in the street about it today and as it seems this ;niche in the market; is dead and buried.

It's not a surprise that the bar struggled. Their niche market was the over 65 crowd, and the average life expectancy of Phnom Penh expats is 57.

HaHa. You killed me with this.

No one is dead. An Aussie NGO turned in a report of a 14 year old working there which was proven false. After a year of payoffs to police and being ripped off by our good friend Raz we gave up when told that "only" $7000 more dollars would "probably" take care of everything. The niche is still there for someone who can deal with the Cambodian thieves who call themselves police. Get yourself a good lawyer before you start.
Seems like a lot to pay for being innocent.NotaYank wrote:No one is dead. An Aussie NGO turned in a report of a 14 year old working there which was proven false. Extortion, plain and simple. If you're going into the hostess bar business you need to go in with your eyes open. You are in the pimping business, promoting prostitution - in a society with conservative values. It's also a hypocritical and corrupt society, so to survive and thrive, you absolutely need 'protection'. A pair of old white gits with no local high contacts running a bar like that might as well hold up a sign saying 'Mugs here - come and fill your pockets'.cambod wrote:Seems like a lot to pay for being innocent.NotaYank wrote:No one is dead. I came, I argued, I'm out
I wish the story above could be elaborated, I'm sure it would be very interesting....andyinasia wrote:Extortion, plain and simple. spot on!
I had heard the same rumour, the only difference being that the girl involved was the daughter of one of your staff and she was simply working in the kitchen. Unfortunately her choice of clothing was inappropriate for working in a kitchen.NotaYank wrote:No one is dead. An Aussie NGO turned in a report of a 14 year old working there which was proven false.
