we may be going into animal farming. not 100% sure, but not a restaurant. that would defeat the object of selling the keyhole. but whatever we did,we would make sure we had more quality time for our girls.

Why don't you just hire a manager, if all you want is more time with your girls?

we tried that on a part time basis, and it just didnt work. there is a certain way we have always run the place,so its not easy letting someone else come in who doesnt know how we do things. so we would still have to be tied to the place in a big way. a clean break is the way. a new owner can do what they see fit to improve etc, without us worrying about it.

they have a 1.5 kilo portion that I must finish before it sells. eat it all and you get your picture on the wall. So say when man... It's a 2 1/2 hour scooter ride. Hit lunch.... digest a bit, and back in Phnom Penh before the night falls.

Deal! Bring ur trailer for when my bike breaks down....

I'll ride in the trailer, those ribs are delicious!

I just got back from Kampot, and ate lunch at the place a few doors down from this one. I wish I knew about the ribs as we would have gone there for lunch instead.

That said, I wouldn't trade our bar in Phnom Penh for that restaurant in Kampot.

Cheers

i have,as i said, kept books since i opened. anyone interested can see them. same with our contract.i can say that the only month the place ever lost money, was when we had the floods a few years back, and had to close for 5days and throw away a lot of stock from the freezer. i havent written a list of fixtures and fittings,so one would have to come over to see the place. i wouldnt want anyone to buy the place without the rib recipe,as they are our biggest seller, and the new owner would surely lose a lot of our faithful customer base from all over the country, should they be taken off the menu. obviously if someone wanted to buy the business, they would have to meet the landlord to sign the place over from us,so they would be able to speak with them then. we are selling the business, name and all, currently in our location for another 3 years and 7 months.

Well that's fortunate, because nobody is offering you that chance anyway.

If I was given a choice of the two, I'd take the Rusty Keyhole, no hesitation.

This is a Ray Croc opportunity if ever I saw one.

Do you mean Ray Kroc? The originator of McDonalds. and if so are you referencing this part of his history.

The agreement was a handshake with split agreement between the parties because Kroc insisted that he could not show the royalty to the investors he had lined up to capitalize his purchase. At the closing table, Kroc became annoyed that the brothers would not transfer to him the real estate and rights to the original unit. The brothers had told Kroc that they were giving the operation, property and all, to the founding employees. Kroc closed the transaction, then refused to acknowledge the royalty portion of the agreement because it wasn't in writing. The McDonald brothers consistently told Kroc that he could make changes to things like the original blueprint (building codes were different in Illinois than in California), but despite Ray's pleas, the brothers never sent any formal letters which legally allowed the changes in the chain. Kroc also opened a new McDonald's restaurant near the McDonald's (now renamed "The Big M" as they had neglected to retain rights to the name) to force it out of business.

I do mean Ray Kroc.

Yes, I was referencing the purchase of the McDonald brothers popular hamburger business and the massive franchising that followed.

But, I did not know that he initially was interested only in helping them open more franchises so he could supply them with milk shake mixing machines. Looks like he came out with the better outcome.

The McDonalds did ok too. They reached their goal of making a million each.

Anyway. I reckon that whoever buys the Rusty Keyhole should buy the recipe as well. Imagine a global short rib franchise that started in Cambodia.
