restaurant review "the exchange".

sorry,no photos, but i had the australian tenderloin steak, with the mustard and butter sauce, with potato gratin and seasoned veg,and my mate had the same, but with the pepper sauce. it was excellent. cost was 18.50 for the steak, which is usually out of my price range, but just for a treat,it was great. anchor can at $1.80 too! very nicely done place. not too posh, but tastefully done place,in a beautifully restored old french colonial building. nice place to take a lady too. staff were superb. oh,and my mate pete, very kindly shouted me the meal,so it was even better.

It is a nice quiet place for a drink of an evening and not that expensive for beer.
Looks to be losing money hand over fist but when you know who financed it,it just doesnt matter.

$1.80 for a can is not expensive? Oh yeah I forgot some places in 136 st charging $2 for any can or draught now and shit service included. You have been ripped off on drink prices for a long time! A crate of beer costs about the same in the drink shops. Never seen a can for more than $1.25 in Snooky and restaurants here mostly less than $1 for drinks. In GST on the beach road, a whole bottle of Mehkong for $1.25.
I guess rents must be double what we pay here?

Phnom Penh can be a bit strange like that. Some of us have paying jobs, cars and even have been known to own more than one collared shirt.

Amazing, eh?

The food/drink quality is very Metro-esque, and the atmosphere similar too. It's a "top end" bar/restaurant if such a thing exists in Phnom Penh; you're not likely to find backpackers in there which is an obvious bonus, along with ample parking space for those with four wheels. I've lost track of the number of times I've passed up on Rahu simply due to the parking space. The parking dudes at Metro making life a lot easier for what is usually a very tricky area to park.

The staff are clearly on the same learning path as those at Metro too, first experience was not good - but subsequent visits have been better and better (Le Moon it is not!)

Only other complaint* is that it doesn't have air conditioning, and the open window/fan style despite being quite cool does allow bugs & creepy crawlies to land in your food.

* Actually, the USA flag on the wall seems to be totally misplaced too - but then you know our chums across the pond, put the stars & stripes anywhere and whatever it is attached to suddenly becomes insanely popular (see Channel V, crap music/video, US flag ... wow! Must buy this tune and make this untalented moron person a millionaire!)

It's only $2 for a bottle of Hoegarden there. I was there on Friday, nice enough place.

Wrong bar. You were at the Empire on Friday night.

You have to admire Tom for his ability to start a new bar/ restaurant and then sell it a year or two later.
