I want to transfer money online from NAB in Aus to Canadia in Cambodge but it appears NAB don't allow EFT transfers direct to Cambodia, according to this list http://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/nab/home/personal_finance/12/11/15#elevenI was sure I spotted it in the list before I left, regardless, age must be upon me 'cause it ain't there now ! I spoke to the sweet young thing in Canadia who gave me a form, apparently using CBA as an "intermediary" ? before I spend countless hours on the phone back to NAB in Aus. trying to sort something out, I was wondering if someone had already crossed this bridge and can offer some advice ? Preferably I would like to set it up so I can do it all electronically myself, from here, however the way I am reading it, I would have to front up at a branch in Aus and transfer to my account here ?

CBA do it. I had an account with them (set up in Oz) which let me transfer money directly to a nominated Cambodian account. I think they charged a flat $25 per transaction. Then, of course, the bank here will want some skin too - bastards...
Not too sure how you'd go getting an account opened from here. If you can organize to send them the necessary docs online or by courier it may perhaps be possible. I was able to finalize a house sale from here using a courier to deliver original docs to the conveyancer, so it might be worth asking.

That might be the go unfortunately, I will send NAB an email with a copy of the note from Canadia, when I get back from Kep, see what they say (I am presuming tough luck). If so, I will just deposit it into a friends CBA account, send him a copy of the Canadia transfer documents and he can wander in for me and have a go at the transfer, if I get no joy from NAB. Canadia charge $10 on <$5000 and $20 > $5000 and .1% on > $100K, which I think is reasonable. I guess I can go down every day and take $200 * 2 out at a time with my two ATM cards for free and walk in the door to deposit it... 14 days @ $400 a day is only $5600 and even though the bank is less then a 5 min walk from my place it is a bit farking tedious and impractical for 5 or 6 figured amounts.

Plus you'll get nailed for some serious overseas ATM withdrawal fees + currency conversion fees from your home bank in Oz. The big advantage of the international transfer is that (assuming you send the money as AUD) you avoid the 3% currency conversion fee that Aussie banks slug you with, and the Cambodian bank will convert it to USD for you on arrival fee-free and at good market rates (ANZ does anyway). St George is another Aussie bank that will happily allow you to transfer funds to Cambodia using online banking ($20 and takes 2 working days), by the way, although I know that doesn't help your current predicament.

Maybe I'm reading ur post wrong, but this sounds normal. Almost all banks use intermediate banks for international transfers.

When I've transfered money in $ from UK to here there is an intemediate bank by name of Standard Chartered Bank, (SCB) who took over $31 for each transaction, the bank here did not warn me of this, nor did they know if it was took as a percentage commission or set charge, in fact knew SFA! (found it was set charge so don't split up your money as I did) Worst of all there was no receipts for this money taken or anything on my bank statement here, it feels like I have been robbed by SCB. I know UCB, Cimb and Canadia banks use SCB but don't seem to be able to communicate with each other!

Yes. Both banks play dumb about the middle banks. I also use Standard Chartered Bank (but they have an arrangement with my US bank to only charge $15ish. That was after my bank said it was FREE though them up to $1000.). I was really disappointed about how my American bank acted. Expected retarded answers from the Cambodian side.

Well every bank manager worth his salt in Cambodia should know Standard Chartered.

This may not be of any help but westpac allow you to transfer money to any bank. I do it online they have pretty reasonable exchange rates and charge a flat $20 for any amount. ANZ Royal used to give you for free or refund you the $20 transfer fee.
