Hello everyone.
I am waiting for my replacement passport to arrive and have been told that I must go to immigration to get an exit visa before travelling overland to Thailand.
I have a copy of my original, valid visa and PPort. Anyone been through this process.
Is an exit visa something completely separate from my usual visas, which I can obviously exit with anytime?
Are they saying I must get a one month visa to be able to leave?
Do you think I can go to the border with my copy and new passport, pay $25 for a Bus visa and leave?
Any info is great, thanks.

They are telling you that they're going to check your records (unlikely) of your stay/s in Cambodia and will then issue you a visa with which you can exit. If they don't issue it you can't exit. Then somebody might have some issues with you

Why not wait till your new passport arrive, Go to immigration with the "copy of your original, valid visa and PPort", And ask to transfer the previous valid visa to your new passport together with the necessary stamps? If you don't have the arrival&departure-cart any-more kindly ask fore one, Or ask to bring it into line with your new passport. I hope you don't have the idea to travel inside Thailand with the "copy of your original, valid visa and PPort"?

Hi sunsan, so how do they know how long I have been here?
Been fully legit since I arrived 2008, but I don't have proof as all my visas were in the lost pport.
Hello frans, I do intend to go to immigration with new pport and copies of original visa, but have been told I need an exit visa as opposed to looking at my valid visa copy and transferring.
It was the first thing I pointed out, why do I need any kind of visa other than the one I have proof of.
to all, I have no intentions of going anywhere until my stuff is sorted, just seems like another way to fuck me around and another way to make me think this place is toss.
Thanks for your answers/ideas guys.

An exit visa is a visa that recognises that your passport has no entry stamp to Cambodia. Most commonly it is is used for foreign children born in Cambodia when they are first issued with a foreign passport. However it is also used when a new passport is issued to cover a lost or stolen passport. Not a scam just regular rules.
There is nothing more Australian than spending time in somebody else's country

When I lost mine I had to get a receipt from the current visa when lost. Had to go to immigration across from airport get exit Visa. Then just flew to Bangkok and an hour later flew back bought the new business Visa. Was cheaper and easier for me to fly instead of the bus.

Because the info page and the last visa don't give the full info of your stays in Cambodia. Exit visas are not just for those who can't prove legal entry. A lot of countries have them, they also make sure you've paid up everything if you've been a resident, you aren't being looked for by the police and things like that. mezmo wrote:Hi sunsan, so how do they know how long I have been here?

...
They'll have the records, no worries.

Ok, thanks a lot guys. Have a clearer idea of what is going on, and what to do. Last question; How long is an exit visa valid for and how much is it? OK! that's two questions. I would like to travel Cambo a bit before I leave. Would be nice to sort it before I go. Cheers everyone.

OK, Maybe of topic, But could be use-full.
I read "Exit visas are not just for those who can't prove legal entry. A lot of countries have them".
If I understand then à "Exit Visa" is a Immigration Clearance Certificate, Shortly Clearance as the call it in the Philippines?
Now my question: After how many months a person leaving Cambodia need this "Exit Visa"?
I wondering because the never have ask me fore a exit visa, only passport and arrival&departure-card, But my passport haven't been stolen.

People who leave Cambodia don't normally need it. Unless they lost their passport and are getting a new one without the records.
The countries I lived in that required them all called it exit visa. There were different conditions to be met when applying for them. In Algeria you had to get a letter from the local police station stating everything was ok, in Iran you'd need to show you'd paid all your taxes.
