Good article Andy, I mostly agreed on what you said about NGOs.
Tomorrow is my last day working for the cunt, they refused to pay my salary unless I help them install Microsoft outlook and other IT shits on their laptops, check for viruses, take 15 massive boxes up 4 flight of stairs and help them make brochures promoting their 'projects' -- all these arent part of my job!
I wonder if I say fuck to the salary and take home their newly purchased laptops, and take a good piss on their newly bought 4wd Nissan what they gonna do about it.

Everyone bow down and pay extreme homage to his Majesty flying chicken.
I don't know what you were hired to do but the tasks you refuse to do sound like typical office work. What are you getting all uppity about? You sound like a work-shy fop, with quite a sense of entitlement.flying chicken wrote: Tomorrow is my last day working for the cunt, they refused to pay my salary unless I help them install Microsoft outlook and other IT shits on their laptops, check for viruses, take 15 massive boxes up 4 flight of stairs and help them make brochures promoting their 'projects' -- all these arent part of my job! Fucking Pinoys!

I thought being a jackass on 440 all day was enough to qualify for a desk-job in Cambodia...

My current tasks are mostly online hence I am always online in the last few weeks. If my role is an office assistant then I wouldnt be bitching about it.

I think it's wrong for foreigners to be "helping vulnerable street kids". My reasons for saying this are that firstly if foreigners wanna help the poor kids, then they should do this in their home country having had all the police checks and stuff, and thereby help contribute to their country.
Cambodian, or Indian, or Nepali street kids should be helped by their own people. And if that country fail to help their own poor kids on their street then they will surely pay for it in one form or another.
Also, i am very concerned about these Foreigners that go to these poor countries to help vulnerable kids. Why?, because firstly they do not necessarily understand the Culture of that country. Child labour and stuff may seem wrong to us westerners, but is probably an ingrained part of that culture. Who knows, but there is a saying that travellers should experience a country, but not attempt to change it because of their limited viewpoint, or lack of understanding.
What about creating a culture of dependancy? What about the vulnerable kids being misused for other gains?..We only need to look at Cambodias Orphanages scam that has over the years worked at appealing to the hearts of idiotic and misguided western tourists in order to scam them out of their money.
What about these street kids falling into the hands of evil western men with their own evil ideas???
C'mon man, d'you really think we wanna know about your charitable work in forein countries? Good for your own ego, but i can see through that. I've worked in Charities, and they are businesses. Personally, i say it's a mugs game, and most charity workers are people with ulterior motives. Ie, they do this work to be seen to be doing good by others. A sad way of gaining a cringeworthy status. I'm not saying you are one of them, but i'm saying you could be seen so. Whatever, leave the Cambodians look after their own mess, i say. Who the hell is a foreigner to think Cambodia needs him?
SORRY.

I thought Mother Theresa was al Albanian? Certainly looked like she had a touch of the gyppo about her.
Edit: so that it doesn't look like a total non sequitur, I should say that the above referred to a paragraph the very charitable comebody has removed referring to Mother Theresa being Indian and so it was ok for her to help Indian street kids.

Yea, You're right!, I have ammended my post. Still, i don't agree with foreigners helping street kids. I'm not trying to sound negative at all, but unless this help can be maintained then it is problematical. Even if it can be maintained it is also problematical.RobW wrote:I thought Mother Theresa was al Albanian? Certainly looked like she had a touch of the gyppo about her.

It's really a job for the Cambodian government to sort out, it's their people after all. Maybe foreigners should simply avoid Cambodia in protest. Maybe this is the answer. Maybe tell the USA about this, they like to tell other countries how to act!

She was not helping street kids per say but she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying that no one else cared for or about. She also opened a home for those suffering from leprosy.
Plus During her lifetime, Mother Teresa was named 18 times in the yearly Gallup's most admired man and woman poll as one of the ten women around the world that Americans admired most.
I consider myself fortunate to have met her while i was in Calcutta
I would say and most would agree ( as she was made a saint) what she did in her lifetime was worth doing
"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer." HST
Yes, Mother Theresa dedicated her life to her cause. I don't know of anyone else as dedicated as her though, and this is where the issue lies. Also there's the question of trust, which is why i truly think each country's Government should sort out their own back yard.
When Westerners go into foreign countries they don't always have true understanding of the whole scenario. And who knows maybe these countries need to go through this in order to learn from their mistakes and Karma.
Just my 2 cents.

The dilemma is that you will probably be followed and filmed by APLE informants if you stay for more than a week and help the kids. They don't take interest if you have a shapely, legal Khmer girl from Kampong Thom holding your hand all the time though.
