Re: Intelligent people likely to smoke and drink - psychologStunning report. This might explain the amount of intelligentsia flowing out of all the poorer neighborhoods that are full of cheap liquor stores.

Why are the gods such vicious cunts? Where is the god of tits and wine?
Re: Intelligent people likely to smoke and drink - psycholog
However, the amount of ethanol alcohol in such fruits ranges from trace to 5%, roughly comparable to light beer. (And you can't really get drunk on light beer.)
I beg to differ, the only alcoholic beverages I drink are what they term as "light" beer and I'm pretty sure that anyone who has met me late at night can confirm that this "light" beer can indeed make a chap rather drunk. Maybe I'm just naturally stupid, or did I miss the bit about smoking in that article, because the two packs a day I'm getting through don't make me feel particularly clever.
Re: Intelligent people likely to smoke and drink - psycholog
I missed that part too, though smoking could probably be ranked amongst evolutionarily novel behaviors, which according to the article are considered an indication of greater intelligence.
Re: Intelligent people likely to smoke and drink - psychologDrinking Alcohol in moderation can be a fun activity, so anyone with 1/2 a brain is gonna do it,

Give 'em up then. nothing is what I want.
Re: Intelligent people likely to smoke and drink - psychologI've always looked at the drinking issue from another point of view. It basically revolves around the idea that ignorance is bliss. Many people live simple repetitive lives. They run the treadmill, pay their taxes, drive their car, watch American Idol, foxnews, and lead a satisfying life because they know no better.
It is when people realise that there is more out there, and start to entertain ideas that life somehow could and should be meaningful that they get frustrated. But when people start to understand the smaller puzzles of life, they also start to acknowledge that there are questions that they never knew existed, let alone can answer! Intelligence is a curse! This leads to tremendous frustration (please, someone back me up with stats on suicides connected with IQ). A very effective way to fight that frustration is to drink yourself in a stupor. This solution is effective in the short run (tension relief)and in the long run (deterioration of the brain stops us asking ourselves these difficult questions). Whether this is done consciously or subconsciously doesn't really matter. It works. Keep people stupid and entertained with simple stuff, and most of them will be happy! If they are too difficult, drug them until they're almost braindead. Smart people know this and apply this knowledge to themselves until they are no longer smart. This is how the human race survives.
