Myself and my partner are looking to teach in Cambodia with CELTA. Neither of us have any previous teaching experience. Is this sufficient to teach in Cambodia???
Is it possible to teach with just CELTA and no degree??
Thanks

Re: Teaching without a degree???
You can, but u risk getting the death penalty if caught. Good luck. And welcome.
Re: Teaching without a degree???
Cambod is kind of stretching things. It is usually just a couple years in prison. They may even let you off with a simple deportation. You should just lie and say you have one, but then if you get caught, it really is the death penalty. "This is my happening and it freaks me out!"

Re: Teaching without a degree???
"Neither of us have any previous teaching experience" isn't right either. So those are two grammar errors in the first two sentences of the first post. I'd say that makes him or her totally qualified to teach English in Cambodia.
Re: Teaching without a degree???Behave yourself!!!!
Re: Teaching without a degree???
I'd agree ourselves.
Re: Teaching without a degree???
Yeah, you can look forward to scraping by on bottom-of-the-barrel salaries that haven't changed for a decade until you almost starve to death and realize that the market is clogged.
Re: Teaching without a degree???You might try ACE, the Temple of Celta.
Aussie guy I know with a doctorate was told he needed a CELTA, LOL. People who steal from banks get jail. Banks who steal from people get bonuses. You gotta love capitalism!
Re: Teaching without a degree???I can second that, people who are extremely qualified (either with experience or teaching degrees) get turned down from there because they don't have a CELTA. The official motto of ACE seems to be: "ALL HAIL THE CELTA!"
Re: Teaching without a degree???
So he should have been. Just because he has a PhD doesn't mean he can teach EFL. It's a different set of skills involved. The PhD bloke would probably have spoken too fast, used too much idiomatic language and been unable to effectively explain the rudiments of how the English language operates. Point taken, though, that ACE think they are the bees' knees. They need taking down a peg or two. We need the Brutish Council here! I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet
Re: Teaching without a degree???A white, English student teacher, working for the summer, asked me 'What's a noun' today. Anything is possible.
Re: Teaching without a degree???
Welcome to the world of bottom market schools. Dictated to a slave and sent by carrier pigeon.
Teaching without a degree???
Perhaps this is slightly clumsy, but just to enlighten me, what is grammatically wrong with this sentence?
Re: Teaching without a degree???
Strictly speaking, the correct form should be "Neither of us has..." but I don't think it really matters, these days. Several of these rules are regarded as cumbersome and are dying out. I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet
