Medical Advice - Am I being scammed?
Medical Advice - Am I being scammed?
OK so after 6 years or so in SEA I finally caught 'the clap', gonorrhea.
I shagged a bird without a rubber about 6 weeks ago - and a couple of days ago the old boy started stinging - emitting a white fluid, and pissing razor blades as the saying goes.
Anyway.
I went to this clinic where they took a swab to clarify what it was, although the doctor was convinced it was gonorrhea. He also gave me three booster shots of some kind of antibiotics, and took a blood test for HIV (THANK FUCK that came back negative the next day).
Now my question to anybody in the know is this: he has been prescribing me 3 daily oral doses of antibiotics for this infection, but he also insists that I get an IV shot in the backside, and a huge dose in the arm EVERY DAY for the next week.
This is costing me $15 per day. My girlfriend has it too but her hospital just gave her a weeks course of antibiotics - which were perfectly prescribed as I checked them out on Google.
I have seen no case where a person (male) exhibiting the very first minor traces of the clap needs to have two IV boosters per day, while also swallowing 6 pills a day.
Is he ripping me off?
His answer was : "Oh gonorrhea very strong in Cambodia, that's why you need these two injections every day".
So is he for real, or am I paying $15 per day for lengthy injections of H20?
Many thanks.

6 weeks? I thought the incubation period for gonorrhea was 2-10 days. Not that I've had it. Sometimes I get imaginary neurotic symptoms down there so I've looked it up before. 2-10 days.
Is your girlfriend the bird you shagged without a rubber? If not, consider that she might have just given it to you 2-10 days ago and the other bird may be blameless.

Reminds me of my landlord near Wat Phnom. Got his arm in a stainless steel watertank on the roof, and there's a hell of an electrical storm coming and I yelled at him to get down. He just laughed, and said, Çambodia storm no problem like that'. He's still alive.incountry wrote:His answer was : "Oh gonorrhea very strong in Cambodia.
But, I digress. Yes you are being ripped off. But be thankful something else isn't being ripped off. He's probably injecting you with saline.

when i had a parasite, they gave me the same line about those. 3 days of anti parasitic meds instead of 1. may have been ripped off... but better out an extra few bucks by a scam than to have doubted it and still had a holiday inn running in my intestines.
Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Treatment is usually a single dose of antibiotics. Then you see if it goes away. If it doesn't, in the west they'd try to figure out if it was an antibiotic resistant strain and try a different antibiotic.
You are being scammed or, in the very least, treated by a quack. Determine what exactly he's shooting you up with and feeding you and Google it at the very least to see if it's dangerous.
The doctor may only be like half a quack and he's just assuming that it's the drug resistant strain of the disease because that course of treatment is more lucrative and that's what you're getting. Or you could be getting vitamin shots and sugar pills.
A reminder: Simply googling words Gonorrhea standard treatment medicine --- etcetera ---- will bring up government or hospital websites or whatever and that is a lot more reliable than asking on here. Best case scenario is that I feel like Googling it for you.
(I understand that not everyone has the same level of computer literacy or the research skills that might allow them to sift information quickly or find accurate sources, but if you're on a forum already I assume that you probably do.)

(Yes, wikipedia can be edited by anyone, but nobody bothers to submit false edits to pages that aren''t about celebrities or politics and the people who do get their accounts banned because the senior editors / moderators are watching. It's actually very accurate most of the time - but it still can't be used as a source for college papers or whatever, because of the possibility of bad information and an inability to attribute proper authorship for any of it to any identifiable person.)

You usually get treated for both gonorrhea and chlamydia at the same time.InterNed wrote:Treatment is usually a single dose of antibiotics. ..
Both can be treated with a single dose of antibiotics.
I believe 1 gram of Zithromax and 400 mg of Cefixime taken orally will solve your problems.
You should also BOTH get a "clean bill of sale" before you 2 love birds do the nasty again, in order to prevent playing "hot potato" with each other.
Gavin has a really good point about who gave it to who. 6 weeks is a long time to start having those symptoms.
Your doctor has been trained to sort out shit like this, and will consider local strains.
Maybe you have more than just the one infection.
Go with the full course of whatever stuff he prescribes, better too much medication than too little.
If you stop treatment half way through it may come back as a more virulent drug resistant form that is difficult to control.

"We, the sons of John Company, have arrived"
That's correct; it may be that he's giving you an antibiotic course for the drug resistant strain. Determine what exactly the drugs are, look them up, and if at all possible consult with another doctor before discontinuing the treatment --- unless you look up the medicine names and they turn out to be heart medication or for ulcers or something, don't take random shit. Antibiotics courses should be completed once started though as BillyB suggests. Even if this treatment was overkill and he prescribed it because of money, if it's an appropriate remedy for that STD in some situations then you'd be better of just finishing it up if it's done at the end of a week.BillyB wrote:Your doctor has been trained to sort out shit like this, and will consider local strains.

Typically, One can dose out on Zithro and kill the clap............but there are resistant strains here, especially against amoxycillin.
I have heard of guys having to go through a course like you are describing.

In most other countries, I'd agree with your assumption. Here...I agree with Playboy.
Many clinics pay doctors commission for extending treatments, writing long prescriptions, sending patients to sister clinics in Vietnam/Thailand etc.
Be skeptical.

Mrs. Smith, we caught little Johnny playing doctor today with Margaret Ramsbottom.
But he's young, and curious, it's just natural.
