This was before he had a meth habit, so his appearance may have deteriorated!

Some advice I gave a business owner in Phnom Penh a while back. Set a limit as to how much credit you will extend a customer. This limit should facilitate the customer spending money with you but also caps any exposure you might have. Make sure that both parties know the limits when starting out on the transaction, that way there won't be any bad feeling later.keeping_it_riel wrote:... and on his 2am departure left behind a three-figure food and beverages bill and also a three-figure electricity bill.

If you need to give credit to someone who cannot afford a $1 beer, that is a good indicator not to give credit!Bosco wrote:Some advice I gave a business owner in Phnom Penh a while back. Periodically review any benefits you get from offering credit (ie how much profit would you have lost if you did not offer credit to any customers). Compare this against any losses you have made with people absconding without paying in the period and then do the math whilst bearing in mind any perceived goodwill which might be lost by insisting on payment up front.
I gave the above advice to a prominent business owner in town on a consultation a few months back. They implemented it and are very happy with the results they have achieved. It is not about complaining about one individual, fun as that might be, but rather about getting the best result for your business.

I wish I had known about this place before there was a limit. I would have ordered a couple thousand bottles on credit. Hell, maybe more.gavinmac wrote:Bosco wrote: Set a limit as to how much credit you will extend a customer.
No offense, but a prominent business owner couldn't have figured this out on his own?

Not really. From his first posts, it was clear Lazy Monk was a train wreck waiting to happen. Mind you, I think I started off having a flame war with him too!scoffer wrote:Felgerkarb wrote:Who the fuck is the Lazy Monk?
I think you were elsewhere when this "Pearl of Oriental Wisdom" first broached the shores of k440.
On a different note - perhaps this might support our pot smoking poll's instance that expats lead a corrosive life in PP.
