Somaly Mam expose in CD?
We have known for ages that somaly mam was a greedy fraudster but why has the daily tipped the bucket on her yet ran the puff piece on morrish and SISHA?

The Daily is effectively an industry specific newspaper that focuses on stories that are relevant to those involved in development aid. That's where it's come from and that's where it gets the majority of its ad revenue.
I think they will only throw an NGO under the bus if the story is becoming impossible to ignore and they are 100% sure of themselves. If the story is about the private sector or locals with links to the government, just a few 'opinions' from curtain NGO's and 'independent political analysts' is enough.
It will be interesting to see if they follow up recent revelations about MLF and SISHA with a story asking whether Cambodia does need an NGO law? At the moment there are no financial checks or balances for NGO's that are only registered here, those two only got outed in part because they have legal presences in the U.S that certainly does.

I am no fan of Somaly Mam, I think she is a fraud. But on the expenditure side from the information on this thread it would look very good compared to some of the more world renowned charity organizations that only spend 2-5% of earnings on the actual intended recipient.

I understand that the findings are with SISHA and have been for some time. In fact, I'm told they were due to be released a couple of weeks ago but weren't.ricecakes wrote:When will the SISHA audit results get released ?
Incidentally, there have been a few changes to SISHA's 'expert advisory group'. Take a look........

Maybe they've decided to rely on Khmer440 for all the advice they need.keeping_it_riel wrote:Incidentally, there have been a few changes to SISHA's 'expert advisory group'. Take a look........

forget it guys.
these crooks are untouchable, Somaly Mam, APLE, Childcare, Hagar, and the whole underworld of the mom&pop NGOs.
nothing will ever come out of these articles, no matter if even her ex husband is basically admitting she's a fraudster.
besides, they don't need the opinion of the public anymore as nowadays they're happily funded by the big boys at UN, Unesco, and several other umbrella orgs with deep pockets and lots or rich suckers acting as private donors to gain face and later claim they're philanthropists.
Apesif doesn't even allow visitors in their "shelters" unless you're an investor and no photos are allowed, they also pre-check your criminal record and you need to book the visit at least 4 weeks in advance.

and of course it's gonna be all staged if some sneaky journalist manages to get an invitation, no less than in the hundreds of fake orphanages around cambodia.
no exit strategy for all this, the only ones who could destroy Somaly Mam and the gang of NGOs are former employees with a chip on their shoulder but who's going to talk and who's going to publish it on the mainstream media ? these NGOs are big customers of the mainstream media, you can forget about it and same for publishing anti-NGO books, you'll get sued and they will laugh all the way to the bank.
and finally, the average joes don't give a shit and have zero attention span.
all they know is they've been hammered since the last 20 years about the human traffic issues in cambodia and if tomorrow Somaly Mam is busted they will just think she was a rotten apple, they will never EVER accept the whole system and the whole NGOs mafia across the third world is a scam because that would mean to accept that the UN, Unesco, ILO, are on the top of the Ponzi scheme and this is not gonna happen for people gullible enough to give money door to door or online to strangers who claim to save kids in a country they can't even spot on the map.
a fool and his money are soon parted.

Ha. Not at all defending this place, BUT.. If they didn't enforce strict entry conditions that would be OK/better? GTFO.bikkhu wrote: Apesif doesn't even allow visitors in their "shelters" unless you're an investor and no photos are allowed, they also pre-check your criminal record and you need to book the visit at least 4 weeks in advance.

And what business does any hero internet detective have in visiting any shelter/organisation which looks after at risk/traumatised children. Implying an open door policy should be in place to ensure Joe Bloggs can determine legitimacy/transparency/financial propriety is as ludicrous as saying that vigilante hero pedo-detectors deserve the right to tail/photograph/harass any foreigner they choose, just in case - even if it is a father out on an evening with his daughter.
Even if it's patently obvious SM has exploited children for financial gain, at least they don't let any random dickhead walk in the front door to hug/instagram/save the kids like many others around the country do.
yeah but considering the numerous controversies involving her NGO and the admission by his husband that she doesn't mind being a liar talking in front of the UN and even about her own daughter some more transparency would be welcome.epidemiks wrote:Ha. for starters, is there any shelter at all ? how many girls are living there ? are they really victim of sex traffic or just random poor girls living nearby and getting a free meal and some basic schooling ?
what it's obvious to everybody here is that this scam is going on since 20 years, there are no more shelters and there are no girls, Somaly Mam herself doesn't live in cambodia, the whole NGO is a turn-key company in auto-pilot run in a few offices here and overseas by experience and well paid fund raisers.
she's probably completely clueless as well as the mind behind NGO is his ex husband but of course he ain't going to shoot himself in the foot with further nasty confessions as he would never come out clean from this story.
