Visa on Arrival
I'm just double-checking some stuff. I want to get a Business (I guess it's called "Ordinary") Visa on arrival. I checked online and it said that I would need a 4 x 16 photograph (I'm assuming that means centimeters; passport style photo, anyway) and "supporting documents". I'm confused as to what "supporting documents" entails. My particular situation is I'm coming to scope the place out and try to get a position as an English teacher.

It's a 4 x 6 cm photo, and you don't need any supporting documents.

Thank you, Lucky, that's what I thought, although it was an official-looking website that had this info. As long as I'm on here, I've also heard vague rumors about having a ticket out of Cambodia to enter. True? False? Depends on who you're dealing with?
Some airlines can get funny about it. Best check with them.scobienz wrote:Not necessary.
You're quite right Rob. I was looking at it solely from the point of view of arriving here.
The real issue - as you point out - is the airline's attitude at your departure airport. I suspect the further you are away from PP and the more mainstream the carrier, the more they will ask to see proof of onward travel, in case they get lumped with bringing you home.

Agreed, the problem is likely to be caused by check-in staff who become confused by all the different immigration rules in force.
Best to print out the current IATA Timatic guidelines for any country you are visiting so that you can "help" them if there are any problems, there is a link to these rules from many of the major airline websites, try to use the airline that you are flying with.
For example: KLM

IATA Timatic is the industry standard used by airlines and travel agents to verify passengers travel document requirements for their destination and any transit points. Airlines use this information to ensure their customers are compliant with border control rules and regulations. Timatic delivers personalized information based on the passenger's destination, transit points, nationality, travel document, residence country etc.
The key benefit of Timatic is the ability to reduce fines imposed by immigration departments for passengers who are carried with improper or insufficient travel documentation! These fines can be in thousands of dollars per instance and can soon add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars! Informing passengers of information such as how long their passport needs to be valid, or if they need a visa provides passengers with a valuable service. This will help avoid delays or disruption during the check-in process and a hassle free travel experience.

The following link from the Cambodia Immigration Department itself could also come in handy:
http://www.immigration.gov.kh/index.php ... Itemid=522
which states among other things
"In addition, the following is required for each of the following visa classes:
...
Tourist visa:
Appropriate visa fee
Demonstrate that they have sufficient funds for their stay
A return or onward ticket or evidence of an onward journey
Ordinary visa:
Appropriate visa fee
For people coming for business purposes - supporting business documentation, either a local business sponsor letter or business license or evidence of previous business activity"
---
In other words, for an activity other than business you don't need a supporting letter for an ordinary visa.

I wonder what sort of "demonstration" they would require; bank book, show them some money...?Demonstrate that they have sufficient funds for their stay

I've never heard of anyone needing anything like that, a foreign ATM card will probably be sufficient.Demonstrate that they have sufficient funds for their stay
This is something that Thai immigration will often demand, if you are passing through there. Anyway, return tickets usually cost very little more than one-ways, and it's probably best for yourself if you have one in case things go pear-shaped. A fake print-out of a return ticket won't get scrutinized.A return or onward ticket or evidence of an onward journey

Well, I'm a US citizen coming from China and I'll be entering at the PP airport. I have several Chinese ATM cards and I dress sharp. I'll also be carrying US currency. Which brings me to yet ANOTHER question. How much USD can I enter with?

You're supposed to declare anything over $10,000.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
As I was longer in Australia than expected,I was 3 days over my ordinary visa expiry date on returning. So at airport, ticked the box "ordinary" handed over my $25 and photo, received passport back with a tourist visa and no change from $25.
Well, fuck those cunts at immigration,is all I can say.
And what can be done about it when you check your passport to see what you got? FUCK ALL!

"OM Shanti"
Be careful when you're requesting your "ordinary" visa. When I filled out my forms upon arrival at Siem Reap, I checked the box for "ordinary visa" and wrote "business" as my reason for visiting. Then they issued me a fucking tourist visa. The same thing almost happened at Poipet until I said "business, business visa, I'm here on business! I need the business visa, not the tourist visa!" Then the official said "Oh! You want business visa? Ok, no problem." I could tell by the surprised look on his face that he was all set to issue me another tourist visa. In my experience, the immigration officials still expect to hear the word "business," not "ordinary," regardless of what the "official" change to the terminology is.
