Favorite Phnom Penh Eats
Always had some fine grub at the lonestar when the western urge beckons
Re LoneStar. I'd like the place a lot more if it didn't have a big flat screen TV remorselessly playing Fox News. Maybe rusted on conservatives enjoy that sort of stuff over a meal but I'm not American or conservative and I refuse to eat there.
We also ordered a Brooklyn pizza last night, mostly because of the hype on here and were also sorely disappointed. The pizza tasted like a cheap copy of a Pizza Hut pizza imho. Also, I chucked in an order of 'creamy coleslaw' as a side - joke! The coleslaw was not creamy at all as it did not contain any mayonnaise and instead tasted more like the Cambodian 'cherout' you get with local sandwiches. At $2.50 a pop, it was just plain wrong!

I will second that. After all the hype, paid 13$ for the "Godfather" pizza. Opened the box and saw what had to be the sorriest excuse for a pizza ever. It tasted like cardboard and was probably one of the worst pizzas I have had. Ate 1 slice and threw the rest in the bin.Teach-er wrote:We also ordered a Brooklyn pizza last night, mostly because of the hype on here and were also sorely disappointed. Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.

Four of us went to The Exchange two nights ago and I was pleasantly surprised. http://theexchange-cambodia.com/
Its right across from Doors in a really beautiful old building. The Lamb shank was excellent and the service was good.

I kinda third this. I don't get the hype either, although it is not Khmer pizza bad.DetroitMuscle wrote:I will second that. After all the hype, paid 13$ for the "Godfather" pizza. Luigis I tried again the other night and it really is the shiz nit.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
It is all due to 'pumpers' and idiots. Never trust anyones review where they say this is "the absolute best in the entire country" .... never. Their pizza is not the best... simple as that. Their other food is alright.... not the best..... and yes their creamy cole-slaw is not good at all....
I don't say it is terrible but the fact so many claim "it is the best" I tend to speak my opinion on it more than other places.

I still like Tell.... atmosphere is dull but the portions and guilt are a "10"
The pepperoni pizza at Brooklyn is good. But it is not a NYC pizza that's for sure. And the other pizza I tried at Brooklyn was just overfilled with various ingredients - thus not a good pizza.

We went to NGON this afternoon for an early dinner and enjoyed our meal. It's less Vietnamese, more Khmer, but the food is good. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the prices are great. We had a starter (Vietnamese Spring Roles), two drinks, and two mains (Pho, and Khmer Chicken Curry w/noodle) for $12. Great place for larger parties with nice atmosphere.

I had the beef tenderloin at Rahu last night and it was exceptional.

Had the steak at The Duck last night. 300gr (grass fed) Aussie beef.
Food and wine very good and highly recommended - service was so, so. Usually when paying these priced I expect up-to standard service as well, but it wasn't terrible.

What was wrong with the service? I never expect much in the way of service in Cambodia.

At one point the waiter was at the bar - probably staring at his iPad or Phone. We needed another drink so we tried to get attention. That went on for about a minute until we had to shout (properly shout, not only raising our voice).gavinmac wrote:What was wrong with the service? Anyway, not a major concern, the food was very good and overall service alright and I'd definitely go back if I want a fancy dinner
Steak and one glass of wine came to $22 by the way.
