‘out osthe blue’ Guesthouse owner killed in Sihanoukville
I went to his facebook page, he was a talented photographer it seems. And his guesthouse looked pretty nice as well. RIP

I'm pretty sure one of those Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki 110 or 125cc bikes can reach speeds of 100km/h. Sure you can ride fast on a Ducati, but riding at anything over 60 kmh or even over 40 on a bad road or in a built up area can get you killed, nothing to do with size.sattroni wrote:Accident happened on 333 street , one of the roughest roads in Skv .
Witnesses say he was traveling at high speed , lost control and landed
60 meters away from the bike . Died later in hospital . Bike was a Ducati ,

This area is becoming quite notorious for claiming lives lately , many not being reported .

it's just too easy to overspeed with those big motos, you power on the moto and the engine is roaring .. how the hell can you go slow .. they're not designed to go slow, period.vladimir wrote:I'm pretty sure one of those Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki 110 or 125cc bikes can reach speeds of 100km/h. You're missing the point.
Even a person on a racing bike should slow down in dangerous conditions, when it's wet etc. Many people have ridden big bikes for years here without an accident, whilst many have died riding small motos.
There is absolutely no correlation, the whole scenario depends on the rider.
I see freshie boys on Scoopys whizzing past me at 80 kmh on Monivong, and I'm doing 40 kmh on a 250. Why? Because I don't like pain and they're idiots.
Yes, big bikes were designed to go faster, but Dog/whoever also gave us a brain to go faster only when circumstances are right.

Vladimir, one thing is sure, if he landed 60 meters away he was definitely going too fast.
he may had whatever reason, maybe he was drunk, maybe he had no helmet, we'll never know, but as too many other expats before him he downplayed the risks involved in living in a shithole like Snooky.

That KTV road is shocking at any speed, don't think he was wearing a helmet either. Lucky his pretty young squeeze wasn't with him.
There was a helmet on the picture that shows his crashed bike. It's on the bike.
But yeah, he most probably rode at an excessive speed, was careless and I believe that it has been raining a fair bit in SHV.
Even though he was the most responsible in his own demise, it doesn't minimize the tragedy of a life cut short.

for sure he had no helmet.
problem is, the government will never move a finger, they've just no money to police the roads at night when it's most needed.
and driving while being shitfaced drunk is socially accepted and even encouraged.
the khmer drive so bad there would be deadly accidents even with bicycles and cyclos.
Owning a big sportsbike is seen as cool and hip nowadays. In the UK there's a whole stack of middle aged guys who've done a fast track bike test and straight away gone out and bought 900+ sportsbikes.
All the gear no idea.
So they go from a 400cc dull learner bike to a mega fast rocket ship within two weeks!
When I was learning to ride in the 80's I rode everything from a 50cc CB Honda (the slowest bike ever made), to a 90cc, 125cc, etc all the way up to big bikes. That took at least 10 years.
When you're a teen you don't have the same self preservation thoughts you have as an adult so you take more risks. The upshot of this is you tend to learn quicker and push your skill set.
As an adult you just want an easy life whilst looking "cool" even though you wobble around ever corner!
I'm not casting aspersions on this Ozzy guy at all, as I don't know his history, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't been riding that long. Either way it's sad.
If you come off a big bike there's more weight inertia to sling you off down the road. Come off at 40mph on a big bike and you and it will carry on sliding. Do it on a scooter and you'll both stop within a few feet.
