What's the least racist country in the world?
A topic heading designed to generate a lot more heat than light I would imagine.

In a recent survey, 25% of people in the UK admitted to being racist.
So that leave the remaining 75%, who much be Pakis, Blacks, Poles, Spiks, Dago's and bike links.

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

That can be cured with a visit to the optician.Hanno wrote:I can only speak about the countries I have lived in and I think that countries like Cambodia, where education is poor, has a large part of the population that is racist. They do not protest or wave flags (usually) but they have a very skewed view of their neighbors.

I'd disagree about NZ.kinard wrote:I would like to say NZ but perhaps The Vatican takes that mantle.SCC wrote:What's the least racist country in the world?

Not education, or lack of it alone, I agree. But that stupid, mindless hatred against everything foreign tends to be more widespread among the somewhat dumber crowd.cock-trumpet wrote:Parochialism is the culprit here... the small mindedness that can not accommodate outsiders or anything that is foreign. I doubt it is solely poor education, as a learned person can be racist also.

In the wider context I will agree Hanno and invariably fear is the killer, but does education prevent people from succumbing to the insecurities of their own existence? Perhaps, and as Michener said "There is no better place to become unlike your father than a university."Hanno wrote:Not education, or lack of it alone, I agree. Much ignorance and lack of worldliness is ingrained and passed down through generations, a pattern difficult to squelch. London is a prime example where it has grown from many villages and each having their own parish, a church territory, where life revolved around that parish. For many, their world was one's own parish and distinctions and exclusiveness over other parishes evolved. (parish being the root of parochial)
I have met people in London who have not and say they never will, go north of the river and vice versa. One in particular was an english language teacher who's father was a Nobel prize laureate, so no dearth of education there, but fair to say by the age of 26 she had finally ventured further afield...to a cinema on Tottenham Court Road.

Some of the most racist people I have met where expats. Just take a look at that "other" forum across the border.businessclass wrote:Personally I find a distinct difference between people who actually lived the expat life for a number of years, perhaps in several different countries, and the folks who have stayed mostly at home apart from shorter trips, no matter their educational background.
And I would say that expats are usually more educated on average.

Here's a Washington Post survey, showing the US, UK and Australia up with the best nations. One's no one's mentioned so far (that I noticed) are Canada, Scandinavia and much of South America - Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina.
