Road through a bit of flooding the other day after work. Thought I'd avoided going too deep, but the following day and since I'm getting this little aspirated sounding pop. Changed the oil and no sign of moisture, airbox shows signs it has had a bit of moisture in there but not necessarily recently. Don't have a plug socket, so haven't checked that.
Only happens at low revs, especially after gearing down or slowing.
Here's what it sounds like:
Should I be concerned? I've been meaning to take it in for some other work, might just drop it in tomorrow.
Misfire?
That recording thing could catch on.
I need to hear what it sounds like when you start it
up after it has cooled down completely.
so post another recording....

I'm listening on laptop speakers waiting for a bus while it's raining, but it sounds more like an after fire more than a misfire (meaning more like a lean pop on decel). Could be that a little condensation made it's way to the ignitor (low revs = less electrical power), but either way if you have decent power and just a little intermittent pop without losing power itself then I wouldn't worry about it much.

It does give the bike a small jerk when it happens. Power is fine otherwise. Just got back from a 2 hour ride south of the city and had zero issues besides this.AE86 wrote:I'm listening on laptop speakers waiting for a bus while it's raining, but it sounds more like an after fire more than a misfire (meaning more like a lean pop on decel). Will do once it's cooled.Florida wrote:That recording thing could catch on.

Main thing is it's not going to kill the bike if I can't get it to the shop tomorrow.
Wouldn't worry about it at all, probably just a tiny amount of condensation made it way into HT lead or coil, etc. I've done much much worse to my bikes via accidents and still had a good running bike afterwards...i.e. I slid my Cub off the road once and landed in flooded rice field. Found the crankcase full of water, pushed bike to nearest petrol stop, drained the oil and water out and filled, went home slowly (misfiring like a mofo).
Flushed the engine when I got home, filled it up again, used spray lube to spray the contacts out and reassembled. Good to go, bike lasted another year and a half until I sold it and had not a single water related issue afterwards.

We could probable start a whole new thread on this.
YES, I take my bike to "xxxx"
You have-
Good Company,
Good Coffee
And get your bike fixed as well.
All we need do now is capture him and secure him in one of LPB dungeons and only him out to repair bikes and go to the toilet.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.
