whats the price of a 2003ish mercedes with nice interior in PP?
one problem of mercedes here is that they are mostly black or dark, including interiors. they get so bloody hot. also ac arent the strongest.

ACs that aren't blowing cold are usually a sign the Khmers have bodged it with non OEM parts. We added new sensors, gas, compressor and evaporator for around $800.
@Pablo - clever by Mercedes Benz Australia, although it would have been a direct sale through AG in Stuttgart, MBA will have got the service and police conversion contracts. Government custom is the best as they will always come in for scheduled service. However, I reckon the Spring Street bureaucrats may have a heart attack looking at the service bill versus their old SS or XR8 workhorses.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
in italy i can get them for 5k in good condition, i think because of taxation (none on purchase but plenty yearly on ownership) mercedes and bmw in italy get very cheap very fast.
The AC in my Merc was freezing, it's the coldest I have ever had in a car.
What is wrong with buying diesel Mercedes in Cambodia and why avoid one that's had aToyota Prado engine inserted in?
I know a guy in PP who has had one stuck in his (S class I think) and it's very frugal, if a little noisy!

1. Depends what model diesel Merc it is. Some are better than others. 80s Merc diesels are pigs but hugely reliable. 90s w140 diesels are just pigs.YaTingPom wrote:What is wrong with buying diesel Mercedes in Cambodia and why avoid one that's had aToyota Prado engine inserted in?

2. Modern Merc diesels cannot run on Cambodian fuel efficiently without the particulate filter removed. To my knowledge the dealer does not retail diesels currently in Cambodia.
3. I had a S-Class / Nissan diesel for a laugh - just don't. It's not funny (the bush mechanic engineering that went in to it was quite amazing though).

If you want something to run around town, why not offer him $1000 and see how you go? Those 'hybrids' are extremely hard to shift and Khmers at that end of the market are not stupid. To give you an idea, I offed mine for $450 (albeit much poorer condition than the one in the pic).YaTingPom wrote:Like this one?Petrol Head wrote:1. Depends what model diesel Merc it is. Keep in mind that heavy traffic (always seems to be issues with the cooling system on bush mechanic jobs) and short province jaunts will likely end it pretty quickly, but then again, for $1000 she doesn't owe you a lot.

Don't tempt me!
Years ago I ran a succession of diesel cars on vegetabe oil, both new and old (SVO and WVO), using two tank systems and direct into the tank (Mercedes 190D) and was thinking about doing the same here. That beast Merc would be perfect!
Hmm, do I need a massive diesel luxo barge that looks like it's from Syria?
(Oh, and I am in SHV not PP)

And those old Japanese diesels could probably take mud to operate !
But you're correct of course, the transit is the kicker. I 'attempted' to take the Frankenstein beast to Sihanoukville a few years ago, I'm not really sure why I thought this was a good idea - absurd misplaced machismo probably.
Earlier I showed the old dame some proper disrespect and took her to Heng Heng Lucky Angkor Golden All Makes Garage to 'service' the cooling system. She would repay me for this slight; never disrespect an old West German frauline with a Japanese pacemaker.
Things were going swimmingly...for about 40 kilometers beyond the city limits and then catastrophe! The tranny fluid was cooked and a hole the size of a 50 coin blew out of one of the coolant hoses. She shot out vital fluids with a fervor that would make the L7 'ladies' blush. My dreams of bush mechanic Cambodian jalopy motoring shattered forever.
I'm reasonably organised, so I had proper tow ropes ready in the (fairly likely) event of catastrophic failure. After an hour or so, Mr Rattana in his trusty Ssang Yong Istana came to my rescue. Momentary elation. Only momentary.
What followed was one of the most white knuckle, pant shitting experiences of my time in Cambodia, as Mr Rattana regarded safe towing protocol as barreling along extra-urban roads at 65km/h. At night. Hauling a 2 tonne vehicle. Sans servos.
By the time we reached the Atwood centre, Id almost reached the point where the Jason Stratham drivers door ditch was becoming a viable option. Luckily, Phnom Penh traffic caught up with us, and I dumped her by the side of the side of the road. Fuck that!
So yeah, get the vendor to drive it to the beach. If he makes it, you've yourself the ultimate road test and a fine vehicle. Just remember to maintain a healthy skepticism of the mechanical attitudes of the gents at Heng Heng Lucky Golden Angkor All Makes Garage (Kampong Soam branch).

I've only had one car let go like that. A 95 Peugeot 405 estate (station wagon).
My fault as I neglected to use antifreeze and as it slowed and made odd noises on the motorway I just dropped it down a gear and floored it, then down to 3rd...bang!
Oil, water and stuff I've never found out the origin off all over the windscreen of me and the following four cars behind and all rendered undrivable due to lack of visability. Wipers just made it worse.
An oil slick 400 yards long along with a handful of cars marooned in various lanes ensured traffic chaos.
After the police turned up and restored order I glanced up and watched an articulated truck plow into the rear of my stricken Peugeot, now safe on the hard shoulder, pushing whence it came into the once clear road.
Traffic chaos version 2, much improved, with a disabled truck blocking two lanes.
The copper said the truck driver was texting.
I think he just disliked my car.
Anyway. I never saw it again and got a nice Mercedes 190D with the insurance money! (Non turbo. Nerve wracking joining motorways!)

I do like farcical jalopy stories. Clarkson built his fortune on their erratic and rusted backs.

Hmm, he's sold it already!
Look out for a steaming pile of shite at the side of the road soon. Hopefully, then I won't feel so bad.
