I'm an American with no plans to go back to the US in the foreseeable future. I have taught at a WASC accredited international school for 4 years with a MA, but no teaching license. It is getting to the point where I would like to take a PGCE. I am aware this is not a teaching license for US, UK, etc. However, I have heard it has utility in Southeast Asia. Is this info accurate? My long-term goal is to stay in this region; maybe Cambodia, maybe a neighboring country. I have no desire to go back to the US and take a 2-year teaching program
Does anyone have experience distance learning (since I would be studying from Cambodia) for a PGCE? University of Nottingham and Sunderland both offer the type of program that I'm looking for an within my budget at around 3,500 pounds or $4,500.
Any information could be helpful. Thanks.
Is getting a PGCE worth it?

Where did you get this information from? The PGCE is the most popular route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK. As such, it is certainly recognised in most parts of Asia.Pecahead wrote: It is getting to the point where I would like to take a PGCE. I am aware this is not a teaching license for US, UK, etc.

The University of Nottingham website says this:
https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/education/ ... index.aspxImportant note: Qualified Teacher Status in England and Wales is conferred by the National College for Teaching and Leadership on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education (England) and the Minister for Education and Skills (Wales) not by universities. This PGCEi does not therefore offer a licence to teach in the UK or elsewhere.

In that case, I wonder whether the online version lacks practical classroom teaching. I was speaking of the PGCE, which does have such a component. It really is worth checking out such details. You might be best advised to steer clear of such a course if there is no observed teaching.
A bit later: I have just had a cursory glance at the website and it seems that the course content is all online; it is all theory-based. I wouldn't bother with it, mate. Just my feelings though, so perhaps others may have more practical comments. Good luck!
It might be an idea to change the thread title to PGCEi so as to avoid confusion.

It's interesting that the OP doesn't specifically state whether he wants to teach English or other subjects. If TEFL, I agree that a DELTA would be the best option.vladimir wrote:springrain, would a DELTA be a better option for him? I know it's more adult/language school focused.
On a totally unrelated note, I reckon Pecahead is one of the nicest posters on the forum. Never gets steamed up, just makes his point and responds in a gentlemanly way. I really wish him the best in whatever he encounters.

Thanks mate. For what it's worth, I teach iGCSE and A Level History and Global Perspectivies.
I've looked into the DELTA it is not what I am after. Now I am researching some other PGCE online courses...we'll see where that leads me.
