Cousin moving to Cambodia to get married
My 18 year old chinese-american cousin is about to move to Cambodia and marry a guy there. But "married off" might be more accurate. She comes from an ultra conservative christian family, who don't believe girls should get to go to college or have a career or anything, just get married and be a housewife. Her parents have pretty tight control over her life.
The guy is 25 years old and some kind of junior pastor (protestant) in Phnom Penh. They met via a missionary/cultural exchange program between their churches. I've never met him, though on facebook he looks like a decent enough guy. Posts a lot of motivational speeches and whatnot. She's visited him in Cambodia a few times and they skype often.
I have doubts. First off, this guy has plenty of Cambodian girls to choose from, his ministry is more girls than guys. Why marry an american girl who doesn't speak Khmer? Green card?
Second, she's very sheltered, and apparently not given much thought to what living the rest of her life in Cambodia might be like. Once she gets married it'll be pretty hard for her to back out.
Maybe it's true love and everything will be fine. I don't know.
What do you guys think?

Of course that's a terrible idea, but what can you do? Convince her to disown her parents and start from scratch alone in the US?

Religion and probably race are the main issues here. Maybe not that many eligible protestant Asian guys in America, I don't know. Maybe the plan is to have him move to America as a pastor there. Apparently you don't know shit except that the guy appears to be decent. I know that kind of guys, they're way more reliable and educated than most locals.
For the rest, I don't see how it's any of your business.

"cousin"
Come on op. It's you isn't it.
Do your parents know you're using the devil's internet?

You should pray to Saint Jude.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
