Not really.
For foreigners trying to guess ages then maybe but my staff couldn't believe that he was 12. They said 'I think maybe he lie'.
I don't think he is lying and I don't think he is a midget, just is unusually young looking.

On an unrelated note, where can you catch concerts in Cambodia? When I visited, I asked around and was willing to pay even $100 for some prime Carabao concert seats but nobody knew anything.
easy enough, most concerts get advertised on facebook, tv, posters and word of mouth,
theres concerts on every weekend at somewhere in the country and often have them mid week too,
best way for you to know if a concert is coming up is by checking facebook, make sure you 'like' all the main drink brands as they usually advertise their concerts if they have a big one coming up, mainly Angkor, Ganzberg, Cambodia, Anchor, Tuborg, Carabao, Leo etc. any day there is a holiday or special occasion they will be numerous concerts
this was the last concert i went to, it had G-Davith, Preap Sovath, Aok Sokunkanha and Khemerak Sereymon performing as the main singers
G-Davith (the rapper) is fun live...
also follow your favourite singers on facebook, as they often post when they might be performing at a concert or gig at a bar,
i went to see my favourite singer Aok Sokunkanha at a small intimate gig in Phnom Penh earlier this year,
got to meet her after the gig too (and yes, i shamelessly got a picture with her haha)

I sometimes wonder how much the Khmer stars make. Can't be all that much.
yeah it crosses my mind also
i think they earn a pretty penny though, mainly through all the sponsorships and the amount of work they actually do
the top superstars perform at concerts every week, TV appearances etc
but just going back to the concerts,
they (the beer company?) can afford to pay for the whole concert (theyre always free so they dont get money from ticket sales)
buying beers at the concert gets you raffle tickets to where you can win numerous prizes at the end of the concert
including brand new motorbikes etc
im sure the main superstars, the ones that are the faces that are going to bring the crowds in,
im sure they get looked after,
but yeah even tonight i was even thinking about how much (or not so much) they might be earning when i was watching this weeks the voice kids cambodia

This charming song reminds me why I started learning Khmer. It is about a husband going to dig around for the country crabs so his wife can prepare samlaw (a sort of spicy stew/soup whatever . . .
I honestly have heard so many people call so many soup like things samlaw that I am not sure):
the sun rises, rises over the road
bong carries the hoe, goes to the field to dig for crabs
Oun sweetie don't follow along
Here! Bong will go dig the crabs so oun can make the stew
The country crab is really tasty
Because its skin is oily, the fresh one is great
Bong dig so can give oun many
Here! Oun will prepare samlaw for bong to taste
Bong will go dig near here
To give you one cup, sweetheart. Don't walk anywhere
I will go quickly my life (like sweetheart)
Just so that you can make the stew while it's morning
Go quickly my dear husband
I will make tasty, the stew will have dry and have wet (like it will have the soup portion and also meat, vegetables, et al)
All of us will prepare
A snack of country crab in the morning is so tasty
To me the best Khmer songs are the ones that are a bit "hokey" or "cutesy" but actually reflect a different culture. This classic is about a country guy who wants to get married but doesn't really have anything but farm animals and some land.
Love and miss oun just want to get married
I promise, sweetie -- just wait I'll have money very soon
No money -- how can I possibly get married?
Ask mom ask dad they have only ricefields
Dream of becoming a rich man indeed
And tell them so mom goes to discuss the marriage
Work the fields so the rice grows, try hard to climb the palm trees
Have luck so don't need to win the lottery
(this particular one confused me)
Change the ox cart to a car, tear down the hut make a villa
haha like Preap Sovath, started translating one of his the other day, not completely proof read it yet, but think i got it pretty close first time, really catchy song...

if the black girl doesnt return i will be frustrated until death

black girl where have you gone to take shelter?

Oh black girl! black girl i come to search the whole market for the black girl

because of love i stay waiting, waiting, waiting until i die

Ngeak Chhveng Sdam Kor Min Khernh Sromaol Kmao
Looking left and right i dont even see the black girls shadow!
Suar Moto Dob Tov Goat Kor Tha Min Dung Ey
asked the motodop to go then he said he didnt know?
Phnom Penh Ery! Lahn Moto Kap Penh Dey
Oh Phnom Penh! Car, moto or a jar full of long peppers
Tver Mech Baan Rub Srey Jih Domrey Tam Rok Kmao
in what way can i get the girl? i ride the elephant to pursue the black girl!
