The Mercedes-Benz Thread
Enough with your Fiats. This thread is about Stuttgart darts. And I don't think i can afford to replace mine.
Time for a GoFundMe page, complete with pics of the wreck (I mean the car) and close ups of your best looking injuries.

Speaking of not affording things... it's going to take one or two more car sales for Mercedes to pay for that nice new dealership down on 60 meter rd.RobW wrote:Enough with your Fiats. This thread is about Stuttgart darts. And I don't think i can afford to replace mine.

Marieke, the C124 on right.

Liking Marelda. I see that like me you adhere to the Orwellian 4 doors good 2 doors better mantra.Petrol Head wrote:Indeed.RobW wrote:This thread is about Stuttgart darts. (

Marelda is a better product than the previous gen CLK in every way. Recommend the upgrade as your Scotch runabout.
Marieke will outlast and eventually outvalue her, but.

Mercedes are granddad cars, especially the saloon/sedan versions (at least the station wagons/estates are bought for practical reasons!) and even the early AMG versions, especially since all poverty spec models now have an "AMG" trim level, minus the engine, suspension, brakes etc.
Give me a BMW (330, 325, M3/5) or Audi (S4/5/RS5/6) any day over any Mercedes.
Yes the V8 and V12 AMG Mercedes are fast but what else is there that's fun? Boring. Dull. Old.
Hell. I've had more fun in a 318 (1600cc) BMW than a V8 SLK. Zzzzzzzzzzz
I do like the older Mercedes, 50s to early 80s.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Some truth in that as a lot of the attraction for me is the yacht-like ride, as opposed to the other two marques you mention which have a bumpy, boy racer feel to them.YaTingPom wrote:Mercedes are granddad cars,

The S class just seemed so heavy. A lot of weight and inertia going into a corner at speed.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
I've been looking at a few C207S whilst here in Scottieland. 2010 ones are still north of 10k sterling, about 3k over my car that sits doing nothing most of the year limit.Petrol Head wrote:Indeed.RobW wrote:This thread is about Stuttgart darts. (

They also generally seem to have very high mileage, which surprised me. I always liked 2 doors because they haven't been taxied or owned by Nigerians, so generally had low mileage. You can still pick up CLKs with 50000 on the clock but these C207s are mostly in the 100000 area even as 2010 models.
I did a virtual test ride.Petrol Head wrote:@YTP - drive the 2017 M2. Do it now.
Very firm and reminds the driver of a sports bike!
Still looks like a girls car though.(I said that not them)
Those two Mercs pictured. On closer inspection I like the older one but the new one looks like a VW Passat.
Mercedes lost their way in 97 then again in 07.

^ I caned one round the neighborhood and I tell you what - with a proper manual and relatively light weight, it's like the M3s of yore. It's also about as much performance as the Everyman wants or needs in the urban grind setting.
Reckon they'll be collectors items one day.
Ps the C207 resembling a Passat CC !? How very dare you!
