This Week - Prince Sihanouk 1969.
Well-made Thames TV documentary about Norodom Sihanouk and Cambodia that was broadcast on November 22 1969. Some great interviews with the prince and some smart young women, and perhaps a bit much optimism considering what happened soon after:
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Ahh Thames TV. Those were the days.
I'll watch that later LL you old moof milker swamp trog.

Good find.I still don't know how I feel about him.One day I feel sorry for him and the next I think he should have died in prison.
Don't ever say that to a Khmer. You'll be lynched.

A whole lot of Cambodians don't like him at all.

I don't doubt it but as you are aware unless you know the Khmer very, very well (as in a wife or really good friend) they don't like to criticise or discuss three topics; (unless it favourable)Lucky Lucan wrote:A whole lot of Cambodians don't like him at all.
1) Politics
2) The king or any royal family
3) Vietnamese

In the last 15 years I have broke all three of those rules many times.I could see where it might be a problem for someone who doesn't have a fucking clue what they are talking about.

I have to disagree.
My Cambodian friends are only too willing to talk about their lack of liking of the Vietnamese in their country. And with good reason within living memory.

Hard not to like Sihanouk in that vid, shows him in a very positive light. He did have some style about him, probably thanks to the French influence. Unlike the current leadership which is totally devoid of any cool factor.LexusSchmexus wrote:That chick at 17:40 is hot. You can tell she was educated in French as she has a slight accent. Probably a chosen spokeswoman or something. I often wonder what happened to a lot of the people in those videos.
Note the border skirmish where a little hut gets trashed. Calm before the storm, the poor buggers had no idea what was about to hit them.

Has anyone every seen a photo (or more than one) of Sihanouk in his First Independence (1945) period?
There MUST have been pictures taken of him with Japanese officer - but where are they?
