used them the other day...all fairly straightforward..took a day longer than expected but all good in the end...exchange rate was about a cent and a half less than the wholesale rate which is pretty good and no other fees which is considerably better than any other service that i'm aware of...

Is anybody else finding these guys really slow of late? 7 days and still no transfer.

I hope that is not the normal situation as I want to use them shortly to move a few dollars and don't want the uncertainty of when it will turn up.
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I'm waiting for some answers as I too need to make another transaction. Will post here what the outcome is. Email today said sorry and that the transfer would be in the beneficiary account tomorrow. If it is, that would make it an 8 day turnaround for what is listed as 'same day, next day'.scoffer wrote:Nasty Canasta wrote:Is anybody else finding these guys really slow of late? 7 days and still no transfer.

took me a day to set up an account, another couple for the funds to clear their account and then 3-4 days to reach the beneficiary..bit of a hold up they said with ACLEDA...

The outstanding transaction cleared today and should be in my beneficiary's account now. I received two emails apologising for the delays saying it was an internal issue that won't happen again and that they would send me a voucher for a better rate next time. No voucher in the inbox yet. EDIT: Voucher just came in by email.
I do need to send another 2.5k soon and wonder as I don't really want the frustration of having to chase shit up again.

As promised, the company emailed me a voucher that they said would give me a much better rate. This was compensation for delays in my last two transfers. When I made my most recent transaction, I put the voucher code in and it offered me a rate 10c better than the current market rates at the time. For the amount I was wanting to transfer it made a difference of about $300AU.
Too good to be true I thought... The next day I received an email saying that they had sent me the wrong voucher code and they were offering me a different rate which was about on par with the US/AUD rate at the time, and wanted me to respond whether I would accept that rate and proceed with the transaction. Fearing another unnecessary delay, I sent them a terse response along the lines of just getting on with it. They managed to get the transaction done by the third day after I'd transferred the dough into their account.
So 3 cockups in 3 consecutive transactions. I will use them again, as it still remains more cost effective for me than paying a fee at my bank and then a fee at ACLEDA as well, but there is no reason to expect it to be a seamless transaction once I've put the loot in their account.

For fast and economical funds transmission from Australia It all depends where you live in Australia, and your preparedness to travel to areas where the Cambodian-Australian diaspora live, and where they have their own parallel and licenced funds transfer businesses which leave the banks and other money transfer agencies for dead, for speed of funds transmission and applicable rate of exchange. Their fees are miniscule compared with most others.
For years now I have been travelling on the train to Cabramatta where, directly opposite the railway station is the Sky Centre and in the ground floor is located the Pisey Tem Money Transfer Service. This is a fully licenced business with its own ABN and is part of the AUSTRAC system. Money can be sent to Cambodia and received from Cambodia through this service.
I very regularly use th the Pisey Tem Money Transfer Service for small transfers which are in hand of the recipients, who don't have bank accounts, usually within two to three hours after lodgement thanks to a link in to the Cambodian WING telephone money transfer system country wide with over 5,000 agencies.
As I've never sent money to a Cambodian bank account this way you would need to talk to Pisey Tem herself about this.

Thanks for that OML.
I'll contact them in due course as I will need to transfer again by the end of the year or early next year if I'm unable to come over.

Check out Ozforex. I opened an account with AUDSmart, but when I went to do my first transfer and compared rates, OFX were slightly better. I have used them numerous times without any hiccups. To get started, you need to go through some ID checks, which is a bit of rooting around, but once you're up and running it's hassle-free(you do need a bank account in Cambodia though).
And I have no affiliation with OFX ...just happy to recommend an efficient company which has simultaneously saved me money and from adding to the bloated profits of the Big 4 Australian banks.
